This story takes place in New Orleans and we meet our friend Trombone Shorty. Trombone shorty is a nickname given to him by his brother because of his love for jazz music. This book does a wonderful job at showing children different culture as well as showing children in‘s and outs of music and what makes it beautiful.

Trombone Shorty was once a guest at my high school and I remember loving his performance and his talk about music. This is a fun picture book explaining his passion for music, his inspiration from his hometown in NOLA, and how he made his dream come true with hard work and dedication. I listened to the audiobook while I read, which added to the experience, as his music plays throughout 🎺🎶

I think this book would be good for 3-5th grade students, it is a bit lengthy so it may require more attention, it would be a good history lesson on culture family and following your dreams

This book won the Caldecott in 2016, it is a story about how a boy feel in love with music and went on to become famous, the book uses the repetitive phrase follow me to capture the audiences attention, it follows this boy through his life to becoming what is now nicknamed Trombone Shorty.

I listened to this phenomenal audio while viewing the picture book for a really great experience.

I was lucky enough to listen to the audiobook version of this while flipping through the print version so I could experience both the illustrations and the music which are both exceptional. This is the story of a young boy from New Orleans who falls in love with the brass bands there at a young age, and because of his charm and dedication that community embraces him back and helps set him on the path to becoming a musician in his own right.

I loved this story. I loved this true life story of a Black boy from New Orleans who looks at his heritage as he looks to the future. More real stories like this are needed for our kids. Add to the story the fantastic illustrations and this book is a solid 5 stars.

This biography book is good because it contains a fast moving narrative to keep readers intrigued, but yet still withholds many of the important and vast details of the character's life. I think it is accurate and authentic, using many careful resources to conduct the reading, and it also has a lot background information to understand what is going on throughout the story!

I think this book would be great for kids that are interested in music or cultures of where they might come from. It is about the New Orleans culture and how one little boy was able to create a successful world for himself in variety of music at such a young age. I think kids can read this and feel inspired to reach their dreams or at least begin to wonder what they can do in the world out there!

I would be able to incorporate this book in my classroom to help my students understand the past and learn about diversity in the fact that the author experienced a lot of the Civil Rights Movement aftermath and racial issues yet how he continued to play and express his love for music.

Trombone Shorty written by Troy Andrews. This book followed the life of the actual author of the book, who is an American musician. The book offers interest and meaning for today's child through music and the arts. Reading this book will also help children understand the past and how music has evolved since then.

I enjoyed reading this story about Troy Andrews who started off not having very much to his name. As time goes on, he made his dream take off by following his dreams and working hard.

We went to see Bo Diddley, who my mom said was one of the most important musicians of all time. As I watched him onstage, I raised my trombone to my lips and started to play along. He stopped his band in the middle of the song and asked the crowd, “Who's that playing out there?“

I liked how the illustrations in this book are very lively. I liked how this book celebrates the rich cultural history of New Orleans and the power of music.

Trombone shorty by Bryan Collier is a Caldecott winning book that was published in 2015. This is a story about a young boy nicknamed, Trombone Shorty, who lives in New Orleans. The author talks about how he would celebrate MardiGra by seeing the parade and the brass instruments. He would then eat Gumbo and related the Gumbo back to his brass instruments. his brother named his trombone shorty because his musical instrument was much bigger than him.
