The New Guy (and Other Senior Year Distractions)
The New Guy (and Other Senior Year Distractions) | Amy Spalding
12 posts | 11 read | 2 reading | 6 to read
A ridiculously cute, formerly-famous new guy dropping into your life? It's practically every girl's dream. But not Jules McCallister-Morgan's. I realize that on paper I look like your standard type-A, neurotic, overachiever. And maybe I am. But I didn't get to be the editor of my school's long-revered newspaper by just showing up*. I have one main goal for my senior year-early acceptance into my first choice Ivy League college-and I will not be deterred by best friends, moms who think I could stand to "live a little," or boys. At least, that was the plan before I knew about Alex Powell**.And before Alex Powell betrayed me***.I know what you're thinking: Calm down, Jules. But you don't understand. This stuff matters. This is my life. And I'm not going down without a fight. ----* Okay, I sort of did. But it's a sore subject.** I mean, I guess everyone knows about Alex Powell? Two years ago, you couldn't go anywhere without hearing about viral video boy band sensation Chaos 4 All. Two years ago, Alex Powell was famous.***Some people think I'm overreacting. But this. Means. War.Filled with romance, rivalry, and passive-aggressive dog walking, Amy Spalding delivers a hilariously relatable high school story that's sure to have you falling for The New Guy.

TopDemon Thank you, everyone! I'll start participating more once I find a book worth mentioning. Am I the only one that feels the need to finish a book even when it's bad? 6y

Hooked_on_books @TopDemon Nah, a lot of people feel that way. I‘ve only recently been able to bail on a book that isn‘t working, but some are still harder to give up on than others. 6y

Not distracting enough for me as I think of all my friends & family waiting for Irma to leave. #itried

I should have stayed home and read instead of going to Super Bowl party. What a disappointment. As was this book.

Bailedbailed

I got to 100 pages and discovered this book was more about a high school newspaper vs. a high school tv program, not about the fun cute romance I was expecting. Jules I found annoying, at first I didn't mind her quirks but then it became over kill and brought down her character.

I think this is the definition of a summer read - teen romance, dog walking, and donut dates? It's entertaining and refreshing to read a book that isn't so emotionally investing! ☀️ I received this book in my Book Mail Box from Book Riot!

I was 100% like Jules in high school. I mean, without the dating and the dreamy boys, but you get it. Throughout this book I kept thinking "makes sense, makes sense" and cringing at the clearly illogical poor decisions. This was very cute and tons of fun.
