Jane Boleyn: The True Story of the Infamous Lady Rochford
Jane Boleyn: The True Story of the Infamous Lady Rochford | Julia Fox
2 posts | 6 read | 4 to read
In a life of extraordinary drama, Jane Boleyn was catapulted from relative obscurity to the inner circle of King Henry VIII. As powerful men and women around her became victims of Henry's ruthless and absolute power-including her own husband and her sister-in-law, Queen Anne Boleyn-Jane's allegiance to the volatile monarch was sustained and rewarded. But the cost of her loyalty would eventually be her undoing and the ruination of her name. For centuries, little beyond rumor and scandal has been associated with "the infamous Lady Rochford," but now historian Julia Fox sets the record straight. Drawing upon her own deep knowledge and years of original research, she brings us into the inner sanctum of court life, teeming with intrigue and redolent with the threat of disgrace. In the eyes and ears of Jane Boleyn, we witness the myriad players of the stormy Tudor period, and Jane herself emerges as a courageous spirit, a modern woman forced by circumstances to make her own way in a privileged but vicious world.

I am using the tagged book for the Informative prompt for @ravenlee 's #covid19challenge

ravenlee Wow, you‘re blazing through this challenge! I‘m only halfway, and you‘re 2/3 done! 5y
Birdsong28 @ravenlee Thank you. It's giving me something to concentrate on which I really appreciate ❤️😘 5y
ravenlee Glad to be of service! 😁 Honestly, I just wanted something that was a little challenging but not over the top. So many of the quarantine reading challenges I‘ve seen are both really long and require some concentration that I just don‘t have right now. I can stretch a little on either of those things but not both at the same time! 5y

Pickpick

Very good. Interesting account of a person that has been vilified throughout history as someone who helped to bring down her brother and Sister in law (George and Anne Boleyn) and Catherine Howard . Even though this is a debut book you can see the influence her husband the prominent Tudor historian John Guy as the writing style is similar as it just flowed and read like a novel and the wealth of research that has gone into it. Birdsong28 Even though there are plenty of times when she states that she can't be sure what Jane was doing at the time due to the lack of documents, but this happens with a lot of Tudor documents as a lot has either not been written down or lost down the years, so you are left with other prominent people and their story so you only really get Jane's story at the start and end of her life as that was when she was the star player.
