Everyone knows and loves the Magic school bus! This SF book would make a great RA before teaching a science lesson about water. This book is about a class that is learning about water and then a young girl named Wanda suggest they visit Waterland and the one and only Ms. Frizzle got a got a funny look in her eyes but was up for it! I️ would use the ESOL strategy 13 by reviewing what the lesson is about. The UDL Guideline 3.1 would would be useful.

This TL novel is a Newbery Honor book and would make a great GR book in the classroom. The book is about a pig named Wilbur that was born a ring and the owner decided he was going to kill him since he thought he had no use, but his daughter Fern, begged him not to do so. The father decided to let Fern keep Wilbur as a pet and the two of them began a journey together! A great ESOL strategy that I️ would use in the classroom is #9.

This humorous F PB is a Caldecott Award winner written and illustrated by Mo Willems. This book would be great to use for S, it has humor that kids will love. The book is about a Pigeon who really wants to drive a bus, so when the bus driver gets off the bus the pigeon thinks that it‘s the perfect time to start driving, but before the driver gets off he tells us all to not let the pigeon drive the bus! I would use the UDL guideline 7.3.

This F PB written and illustrated by Peter Reynolds is about a young girl who believes she can‘t draw and doubts herself but her teacher inspires her and tells her to “just make a mark”. This story would make a great RA and encourage students to try their best and be themselves. He ESOL strategy that I would use is number 3 and have kids talk with each other and show positive thinking with classmates.

Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo is a F novel that would be a great if used in a LC. This book is about a girl and a dog that she meets inside of a Winn Dixie and she keeps him and decides to name him Winn Dixie. I love this book and knowing that the Author is from Florida and has grown up close to where I live is very interesting to know. I would use ESOL strategy 43 and have the students underline key ideas that could help them summarize.

This F PB written by Laura Numeroff and illustrated by Felicia Bond would make be great for S or an AS. Laura has written many children‘s books that kids love such as: If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. This book is about a mouse who goes to school and asks for one item then continues to ask for more things throughout the day. I would use the ESOL strategy 10 by having students work in pairs and compare notes about the Author after reading.

This adorable F picture book would make a great RA and teaches students to always remain positive even when things don‘t go their way. This NYTBS was written by Eric Litwin and illustrated by James Dean. It is about a cat who starts the day off with four buttons on his shirt but as the day goes on he loses one at a time but doesn‘t let it bother him and he continues to stay positive.

This RF PB would would make a perfect RA to your own children or students, it is a very sweet story about a mother‘s love for her child as he grows older. I would use the UDL guideline 3.2 by pointing out the repetition that occurs in the book. I would also use the ESOL strategy 14 and slow down my speech so that all learners can comprehend the text. Seedfolks is a RF Golden Kite award winning book by Paul Fleishman. This novel is perfect for grades 4-8 and would make a great IR or PR. I read this book in my RED class and fell in love with it, the story is about a little girl who looses her father before she was born and the only way she knows how to connect with him is by planting seeds, so she begins to do so and slowly the entire neighborhood joins her.

It‘s all about a cat who starts off with white shoes but as his day goes on he steps in all sorts of stuff, but instead of letting it ruin his day he just keeps going. This teaches students to not let one small thing determine your attitude for the day and instead look on the bright side.

This F PB by Dr.Seuss is a Caldecott award winning book and would make a great AS for students. This book teaches students to not give up and to always stick with your ideas even if people doubt you. The UDL guideline that I would use is 9.1 by setting expectations for students before they begin working on their author study with Dr. Seuss. I would also use the ESOL Strategy 6, to make sure students are comprehending while completing the author

This is my all time favorite book! This Outstanding Book Award Winner by Shel Silverstein is P and would make the perfect IR or RT. This B PB is a Caldecott winner and was written and illustrated by Mordicai Gerstein. This book would make a great RA around 9/11 to talk about the Twin Towers. The book is about a guy named Philippe Petit who was a well known street performer, one day he looked up and saw two buildings side by side and thought it would be a great idea to walk on his rope between the two towers. Out of my Mind by Sharon M Draper is a RF novel that has been on the NYTBS. The book is about the journey of a young girl named Melody who has Cerebral Palsy and she can‘t speak or control her body which has forced her to be in a wheelchair. Many people judge her and think that since she can‘t speak then she must not be smart, but really she is brilliant and it all starts to show when she gets a machine that helps her communicate.

Pete the Cat: Trick or Pete written and illustrated by James Dean is F and would make a perfect RA to students around Halloween. If you are familiar with any of James Deans books then you will know how positive all of his books are and this one is no different. This picture book includes lift up pictures so it allows students to be interactive with the book while you read aloud. I would use UDL 3.2 and show the repetition that is occurring.

Rosie Revere Engineer written by Andrea Beaty and Illustrated by David Roberts is a NYTBS RF picture book and would be a perfect RA in the classroom. This book is about a young girl who dreamed of becoming an engineer but failed and let down her uncle and then began to give up on her goals. Her aunt Rose comes around at the perfect time and reminds Rosie of how smart she is and to not give up because “The only true failure can come if you quit”.

Monster‘s New Undies written by the award-winning author Samantha Berger and illustrated by Tad Carpenter is F picture book that would be great for Kindergarten age students and best used as a RA or S. It offers LOTS of humor that kids will love and enjoy and will make a awesome book for your classroom library. The UDL I would use for this reading is 3.1 by asking students if they have ever had to do something they didn‘t want to do

Wonder is RF and has been voted a NYTBS, this book would be excellent for IR or LC. Auggie was born with a facial deformity that has prevented him from attending school therefore he has always been homeschooled. In 5th grade, his parents decided to introduce him to a school called Beecher Prep where he was now the new kid. Although Auggie is just like every other 5th grader he was often made fun of due to his extraordinary face.
