Life's too short to think you have to finish every book you start.

This Must Be the Place | Maggie O'Farrell

Current mood: the anticipation and joy that comes with finding a new favorite author.

I'd started Instructions for a Heatwave before but bailed. Going to try again. Maybe it will be my #changedyourmindabout book.

Grey skies and mild flurries. Well, what else is new, London? I have 20% left in the book now.

We watched the flurries for a while. My toddler muttered shnow shnow excitedly but went back to her book after instructing me to "put it back" (the phone).

Litsy Android app is buggy that I've stopped enjoying it. I have so many ideas on this app, there's so much potential.. please fix the bugs.

It's interesting how many times Wuthering Heights and Harry Potter came up in #changedyourmindabout.

For #fesityfeb today, so excited about #changedyourmindabout because that was my contribution. Thank you @RealLifeReading for the time and thought you put into this.

I came very close to giving up on Song of Achilles several times. But I'm so glad I didn't. My initial indifference grew into a dull ache slowly and by the end of the book pure anguish. I read the last few chapters several times.

RealLifeReading Thanks for the excellent prompt by the way, it definitely has made me think of my reading differently today. 8y

The immigration ban has been very upsetting. I have set up recurring donations to IRC Syria and Planned Parenthood with gift match from my employer. I don't know what else to do but I'm closely following the news and suggestions from people in the forefront.

P.S. Did you know you can buy t shirts and onesies that say what the toddler is holding up in the picture?

Do you have a usually have a picture of characters in your head? Check the spoiler comment to see what I'm thinking of. Only if you have read book 2.

Me, half way through a Ferrante - This is too much. I must take a break after this book.
Me, after finishing - *rush to download the next one and start playing immediately*

I feel bad not savoring book #2 which was the best so far. #3 is good but slow. I enjoyed Elena coming into herself finally.

Since book #4 moves much faster, I will be done soon. Tell me oh book people, how to fill this Naples shaped hole in my heart.

#readjanuary #bookwithinabook @RealLifeReading

How amazing is Margaret Atwood. I cannot remember if this the hashtag is a spoiler though, so if anyone thinks so please let me know, I'll edit.

This is the first book that comes to mind when I hear "book within a book". I was so bowled over the first time I read it. Atwood is ambitious and constantly experiments with her books. She's a perfect role model while being such a competent author.

airen Legendary. She deserves a Nobel Prize for Lit. (But, do they deserve her?) 6y

My almost 2 year old "reading" Tintin, by which I mean she exclaims "Oh Nooo" wherever someone's falling down and points out the people she thinks are crying. Heartwarming to see her gravitate to books so much.

I read this so long ago but was completely enthralled by the Karachi and the friendship in this book. Wonder if I'll feel the same if I re-read..Shamsie is a delightful writer.

I've not finished this science memoir yet but it's so so good that I can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone.

I'm ready to go look at some trees after every chapter.

litsybookclub I'm not sure if you are aware, but Litsy Book Club will be discussing this book live next Sunday at 5pm ET. There will also be online discussions April 24-April 28th. We'd love to have you join us! 8y

If you have seen my profile and bio you can tell that I do not feel guilty about bailing on books at all. Looks like I bailed on 14 books in 2016. This Becky Chambers book was recommended by a colleague and really very interesting but it was a bit too much like Firefly for me to have sustained interest.

Look at the UK cover - isn't it gorgeous?

The Neapolitan novels should have been called Elena's Imposter Syndrome. I hope she gets more self confidence in the later books.

Sunset at Cherai beach. I read a bit of my book just so I have a picture to post. Small unnecessary integrities of a reader!

Anne Enright is great. I loved the first few essays of early motherhood. I can see myself leafing through this book again should I have another child because topical reading.

5 stars because it's authentic. We know that if this were any other writer the girls would be just pretty vs nerdy, or some such rubbish. Here, at no point are they two dimensional. Such complex layered authentic characters. And the things that happen to them!

rachelm In the middle of it right now and totally agree! 8y

I finished listening to the last minute of the book as I stepped out of my carriage, at the tube station, and then walking out. I knew there's a cliff hanger of sorts and been trying to predict it the last few chapters. Didn't. And the first thing I did when I got home was to download the next books even though I had promised myself to save them for my India trip next week.

And then I went on at night to dream about my own brilliant friend.

Am I being crazy attempting Ferrante in audiobook format?

Strangechord Not crazy! I just finished the whole foursome in audio - took me a few months and SO worth it! 8y
nandana @Strangechord glad to hear. I'm really loving the story and narration. I may not have gotten into it easily if I'd tried to read it instead. 4 months of immersion sounds fantastic. 8y

I had some issues with how the way the author handled the end in terms of what he normalized. But Mariamma Chacko totally won my heart. Don't think I have seen such a well-etched character recently.
