A collection of 5 shorter pieces from #Proust. This lovely little book runs to just over 100 pages. The excellent Swann Explained by Proust is included. Published as part of Penguin Books Great Ideas series.

At last, the separate parts of Hermann Broch‘s trilogy together in the beautiful, rare, #penguinclassics edition.

#johnfowles postmodern occult thriller mind-bender. I remember reading it in 2 days, feeling each subsequent chapter rip the carpet from under me, as the story asked - but never answered - the question “who is Conchin?” Freud, Crowly, Picasso?

A classic collection of #zen tales to wake us up from samsara. Absolutely wonderful.

This is a book I‘m very fond of. A portmanteau collection of tales about gypsies, the occult, swashbuckling, murder, and all sorts of romantic skullduggery. Worth the price for the biographical info on Potocki alone, one of the worlds great mystery men.

I read this recently after seeing Kubricks movie in the cinema. It differs a great deal, I would say, from the film. Both, in their own way, are rather wonderful. I was delighted to see my home town mentioned as the place Barry spends his first night of independence.

This is a fine little guide to the magnificent In Search of Lost Time. Mind you, I read the entire work without such aids, but I have read it since and find it great for refreshing my memory.

Current #nonfiction reading. Insightful talks from the #zen #Buddhism tradition.
The Lost Heifer by #austinclarke. We learned this in school, back in the 80s I guess. It‘s still haunting, opaque, inscrutable - like #Ireland. #poetry
Clarke was of that generation of poets who came in the wake of Yeats, and were - to a large extent - overlooked because of that. This #penguinclassic Selected Poems is a good overview of his style, oeuvre, and concerns. I do hope he has a bit of a comeback. I love this book. #irishwriting #poetry #irishpoetry #penguinclassics
Beautiful little collection of 9 stories by #robertmusil, one of Germany‘s great 20th century authors. Known for his massive The Man Without Qualities, his other work tends to be overshadowed. A great little investment, this book is a must have for readers of #modernism.
#robertmusil author of the incomparable The Man Without Qualities. #germanwriting #modernism
The great #Irish novel. The work that changed the trajectory of 20th century writing. Bloom‘s visit to the outhouse brought the long 19th century to a sharp end; we were brought into a new dispensation with this one Book. #jamesjoyce #ulysses #irishwriting
A little shelfie of works by #wgsebald. A man on the cusp of the fame he always deserved when he died suddenly. One of the most original writers of the late 20th century. Sebald invented a new way of presenting human experience through flowing prose enriched by images.
A little shelfie of books by #johnfowles - one of my favourite writers.
The magnificent, completely forgotten, masterpiece by #hermannbroch The Death of Virgil. It was released to widespread critical acclaim as an example of modernism to rival Musil, Joyce or Wolff. This #penguinclassic sells for up to 2000 euros!
This arrived. The middle member of Broch‘s trilogy; they should be arriving early next week. #hermannbroch #germanwriting #penguinclassics
Took 7 months, but was worth every hour. Greatest novel ever written. An extraordinary tour-de-force from #marcelproust who took 12 years to complete the novel.
