Loved reading this to my son. Also has encyclopedic descriptions of animals depicted in the book. We must have read it 50 times.🙃

This follows one of the characters from Cider House Rules--so detailed you can visualize and feel each scene.

Wonderful odyssey of a family in 50's and 60's--suspenseful--political historical fiction. Long read.

Wonderfully modern take on Sense & Sensibility. Such a risk to try to successfully follow in Austen's footsteps, and she succeeds.

rosmuso Enjoyable light read. 8y

The Help | Kathryn Stockett

Read and re-read--a treasure of heartbreaks and triumphs in the start of the civil rights movement.

Donna_sBookMinute I liked it. Read it years before it became a movie. I haven't even seen the movie. 8y
Penelope Movie does follow the book somewhat. I liked the movie as well, which is unusual for me. Usually either the book or the movie is good--not both. 8y

Ok but not great. He may be better at writing for the screen.

Orphan Train: A Novel | Christina Baker Kline

Will make you thankful for what you have and your trust in others tested.

mrldg I thought it was a good fictionalized version of the transfer of children (some were not orphans) from the east to the midwest. Growing up, I heard of quite a few people in my community who were "train orphans" (my parents' term). 8y
Penelope So interesting. I hope the "orphans" had positive experiences. 8y

"We lay back on the sand as color claimed the sky: first pink, then lavender, and finally, blue." Wonderfully written, and so many unexpected turns.
