I love Kaur‘s raw and emotive power. A quick but shattering read.

What She Knew: A Novel | Gilly Macmillan

I usually struggle with mystery books. They either enthrall me or make me so anxious I cannot finish. This book had a unique writing style moving through different narrators and moving through the same events. This helped build an intriguing story arc.

Will Grayson, Will Grayson | John Green, David Levithan

Some may find it comforting, but I found it extremely jarring to go between the two writing styles. Though it was perfect for the dual Will Grayson‘s—it certainly lost the charm and addictive quality of other Green novels. This one was emotive, but not in the same way that his others pull on your heart strings.

Of all of the Green books that I‘ve read, I think I find this one the least charming. The math is extraordinary. The quirks of a child prodigy, fascinating. But this book lacked depth in a lot of places. Though there were three main characters, you never get to really know any of them fully. There are loose ends in the entire book. Nonetheless, I read from beginning to end.

Looking for Alaska | Green, John

I‘ve been gobbling up Johns books. His characters are essentially the same from book to book. But I still read them with fervor and joy. They make me feel like I‘m clamoring for something just a little more.

Charming. Quick. Nothing too strong to impact me.

Paper Towns | Green, John

I know that others find Johns books cliche or angst. I find them enthralling and wonderful. This one was easy to digest, but it changed me. I feel like it took me to a place that I can almost remember.

Felicia Day is one of those women who stayed true to herself and made her way through hard work and determination. Totally an inspirational and cautionary tale of what happens when you cling to who you are and hold on like you‘re riding a bull counting the seconds. Definitely would read again for her brutal honesty about anxiety and depression and perfectionism.

A rip on Marie Kondo‘s approach, Knight gives the reader practical steps to refocus energy on what matters most to the reader and tools to put it into play. Lots of cursing and snarky jokes are available throughout.

Goins is smart, educated and experienced. He‘s walking the walk and in this book he talks the talk. A good book to revisit when it‘s time to take writing to the next level and you need a refresher or a push in the right direction.

I‘ve read this book three times now. It never ceases to teach me something new about relationships and how to love authentically. It challenges me and inspires me.

No holds barred approach to leaving the work you hate to building a career you love. Some trite and rehashed information. Straight to the point but doesn‘t challenge you to actually work it. More of a setup to get coaching lessons.

Inspiring. Strong book for the first of 2018. Inspiring, blunt and challenging. Innovative prompts to help you reevaluate your hang ups on money and permission to dream.
