Charlotte‘s Web is a very famous and well liked RF novel. This Newberry award winning book follows a pig named Wilbur and a young girl named Fern who adopts him. The two develop a close bond and friendship early on in the book. The suddenly, Wilbur is sent to a new farm away from Fern. At this farm, Wilbur becomes friends with a spider named Charlotte.

MNelson98 Wilbur soon learns that he will eventually be slaughtered, so Charlotte tries to help him avoid this fate throughout the book. This novel is a very heartfelt story that students will absolutely love. It is a perfect book for IR. Since students will be reading this individually, ESOL strategy 6 is important to use to make sure students are comprehending the story. ESOL strategy 9 can be used so students will have notes from the novel for future 6y
MNelson98 assignments or discussions. UDL 2.1 can be used for students to learn new vocabulary shown in the book. UDL 7.1 can be used for IR because students will be able to make their own decisions regarding a reading plan. This SF novel is absolutely perfect for LC. It takes place in a future where the governments of North America have fallen and a new country has been formed. 12 Districts make up this country. Every year, the Hunger Games takes place as a reminder of the betrayal and defeat of District 13. Each district must choose one boy and one girl to play in the annual Hunger Games. However, the only way to win this game is to survive.

MNelson98 The main character, Katniss, ends up becoming a contestant in this deadly game. You‘ll just have to read to find out what happens next! Kcallihan This was one of the first series books I‘ve ever read and I absolutely loved it! I think you did a very good and detailed job about explaining the plot of this book. I agree that LC‘s are a perfect choice for this book! Allowing students to communicate in their LC‘s while the teacher checks on each group‘s understanding periodically is a very effective use of time!! 6y

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is a very well known F novel by JK. Rowling. This is the seventh and final book of the Harry Potter series. It follows Harry and his friends on a journey to find and destroy Horcruxes. This is the only way to defeat Voldemort once and for all. This final book will keep you captivated and wishing for the series to never end. It would be great for LC and IR.

MNelson98 ESOL strategies 2, 6 and 13 can be used for LC‘s and to make sure that students are not lost while reading. UDL 2.1 would be useful since the Harry Potter books tend to have higher level vocabulary. UDL 8.3 can be used in LC‘s. One Crazy Summer (HF) is a Coretta Scott King Award and Newberry Award winning novel. It follows three sisters who visit their mother who abandoned them. They are not welcomed by a warm and loving mother. Instead they have to deal with her coldness for the majority of the summer. The sisters soon discover that their mother is a Black Panther. The girls eventually understand the purpose of the Black Panther movement.

MNelson98 By the end of the summer, they end up learning a lot about prejudice, family and pride. This book is great for LC and IR. ESOL strategies 2 and 9 can be used in a LC. Goggles! is a Caldecott Award winning RF picture book. It follows a young boy named Peter who finds an old pair of motorcycle goggles. He and his friend Archie think that the goggles are a prized possession. However, they run into a gang that wants to take the goggles from them. This book focuses on dealing with bullies, which many students may relate to and appreciate the message. It is a great book for a classroom RA.

Junie B. Jones and her Big Fat Mouth is an entertaining RF book about a sassy kindergartener. In this book, Junie B. wants to impress her peers and lies about having an awesome idea for career day. By the end of the story, she ends up finding the perfect job to dress up as. You‘ll just have to read to find out what she chooses. Junie B. Jones books are great for IR. Many students will be able to relate to her mischievous and sassy personality.

National Geographic Kids: Wild Animal Atlas is a NF book that contains a great amount of information on wild animals around the world. It goes through different countries and where animals locate. This book works great for IR and PR. Students will absolutely enjoy all of the cool facts and eye-grabbing pictures! ESOL strategy 30 can be used to help students make connections with the wild animals and their location around the world.

No, David! is a RF picture book that is great for S and RA‘s in elementary school classrooms. David is a silly and mischievous child that always breaks his mother's rules. Plenty of children can relate to this book because children are always told what they can or cannot do by their parents. ESOL strategies 14 and 17 can be used for S and RA‘s. UDL 7.3 also works with the two teaching strategies and keeps students engaged.

Using the RA technique will allow a whole classroom to learn about Lincoln and his influences on the United States. ESOL strategy 42 can be used so students can visually understand events in history. This F book is about a middle schooler named Percy Jackson who discovers that his father is Poseidon and he is a demigod. Percy goes to a camp to learn how to fight and control his new powers. After being framed for stealing Zeus‘s lighting bolt, he goes on a journey to retrieve it from the actual thief. This New York Times Best Seller book will keep you captivated and itching to know who the thief is. It can be greatly used for a LC and IR.

This Caldecott Award winning book narrates a story about a young rabbit named Jasper who is absolutely obsessed with carrots. That is until the carrots start creeping on him! This funny F tale will keeps students engaged and curious about what will happen next. It is perfect for a RA and S for an elementary school class. Martin‘s Big Words is a B book that can be used for a RA in the classroom. This Caldecott Award and Coretta Scott King Award winner narrates the story of Martin Luther King. It describes the incredible impact that MLK had on our country and how he was motivated by love instead of hate. The fact that MLK helped establish equality is very well known, but this book will help students learn about more events that occured in his life.

MNelson98 The book also promotes solving issues with love instead of hate, which is a great moral lesson for students. ESOL strategy 13 will help students who may not already have previous background knowledge of Martin Luther King. ESOL strategies 42 and 43 will allow students to visually see when events occurred in history and to comprehend important facts. UDL 2.1 and 3.1 can also be used with this book. 6y

We all know the classic tale of Cinderella (TL). A young woman is mistreated by her evil stepmother and stepsisters. Her fairy godmother gives her the opportunity to improve her life for a night by going to the royal ball. Cinderella goes to the ball and ends up falling in love with the prince. The next day, the prince searches all of the land to find her again. Once he finds her, they get married and Cinderella becomes a princess.

This Newberry Award winning book is full of mystery and will keep you curious. It follows a girl named Luna who was supposed to be sacrificed as a baby to an evil witch. She is now starting to learn that she is full of magic. You‘ll have to read to find out what happens next!
