Girl Waits with Gun | Amy Stewart

With this book, #pop23 (excluding advanced prompts) is done. #withgirlinthetitle

Also #booked23 #partofatrilogy - there's probably more in the series but it's so late in the year I can't be bothered to find an actual trilogy now.

Great narration from Finty Williams (Judi Dench's daughter) & Emilia Fox (daughter of Edward). The chapters go between 'Then' and 'Now', when Emma (then) and Jane (now), rent the same unusual home. 1 Folgate Street is a minimalist's dream but comes with some very creepy rules and a very controlling architect. Lies are revealed, and twists and turns ensue. Not ground breaking, but a fun, pageturning physiological thriller. #LRC2 #withgirlinthetitle

Reviewsbylola I liked the idea of a smart house but his one never really got off the ground for me. I didn't think the characters felt fully fleshed out. 8y
Ms_T Great collage. 8y
KarenUK @Reviewsbylola not sure I would have liked it as much in print... but the audio narrators were great.... (edited) 8y
Peterfox123 @Reviewsbylola I agree. I liked so much about this book but the controlling architect character seemed too close to a cliche. 8y

I like this, especially Amanda's inner thoughts throughout because I don't have enough experience with a trans person's perspective. The guilt she felt over not sharing her secret was tough for me to read-I often struggle with characters keeping secrets in stories. Two author's notes at the end: both great.

🎧 Tried it in audio + just couldn't listen to the Southern accent. Drawl + twang sound forced to me.

I really enjoyed listening to this retelling of The 12 Dancing Princesses set in 1920's New York. Susie Berneis does a great job narrating. The girls have distinct personalities and I cried hoping everything worked out for them. I'm going read read Catherynne Valente's Speak Easy next because it is also 12 Dancing Princesses in 1920's New York. It should be an interesting compare and contrast. #LitsyAtoZ #LetterG #LitsyRC2 #withGirlintheTitle

I've mentioned my irritation with books #withgirlinthetitle before, and then I found rather more in my collection than I expected. Darn it, hoisted by my own petard...
Most of these are still TBR #ReadJanuary

vivastory @Moray_Reads Thanks for reminding me of "The Girl with Ghost Eyes." This was buried in my TBR. I'll be looking for it at the library later. 8y
