May was a good reading month- great books and my reading time was up despite being a busy month.
Notice my page count was down though so maybe a few of those minutes were for sleeping. 😅
If I HAD to pick a favorite for the month…Billy Summers.

so-so3/5⭐ I like that the book has tons of journal page examples, includes some specific recommendations for materials, outlines different reasons for keeping journals, and encourages readers to just dive into keeping their own journal. However, the examples are all done by talented artists, which is a bit intimidating for those of us who can barely draw a stick figure let alone a realistic panda. Much of the text was repetitive and generic.
pickWow. The care that went into writing about something so harrowing is felt throughout the book. Frankie‘s entire journey was so thoughtfully and well written that I could see and feel and smell everything on the page. War is ugly and it ruins people and to read something so raw, it pulls at your soul and makes you feel everything. Book #11 in 2024 (their faces are intentional)
Today was long and ridiculous but I came home to lots of book mail! I won a prize package for our summer reading program at the library!! The artwork is from the tagged book.
My daughter loves to draw portraits and she discovered this year in art class she enjoyed watercolors. We picked up some supplies and she saw this 😍😍 instructional painting and had to have the book. Go DK! When my kids were little we had several DK books.
pick@Eggs posted about this book. I love the ocean and books about it. My library had it on Hoopla so I checked it out. I enjoyed the poems — Sea Urchin made me laugh — but the illustrations make this book. It‘s really raining a lot here, so I‘m settling in to continue with Hijab Butch Blues.
