pickSoft pick. I chose this particular book because I wanted to hear Boudica's story from the mouth of a woman who could be critical of sexist sources who used Boudica's story to further their own agendas. In a way, she reveals those agendas and some of their biases. But, for the most part, she simply retells their stories without too much criticism (where it was due). 1/3
Reading is our jam! I love the way these scholars entertain my love of books. A few of them even picked up a recommendation that I gave.
pick5⭐️ for this 30 page incredible poetic story. It was just one of the most exquisitely, brutal stories I‘ve ever read. Utterly heartbreaking yet so so empowering. It‘s the first book I‘ve ever read by this author, but definitely not the last. If you can take an hour to out of your day, and you like dark fantasy, get this wanna try. I don‘t think you will regret it. This is awesome my #DoubleSpin for my #bookspinbingo.
pickThis is such a unique setup! I expected a novel when I pulled this off the shelf, but that is not what I found. Lowry begins with a discovery: the Windeby child unearthed in Germany in 1952. She creates a fictionalized account of the life of that child, shares further history, and tells a different story of the Windeby child. It‘s a fascinating exercise. I can see this being an excellent example for beginning storytellers. And it‘s # 100 for 2023!
pickI stayed up until 5AM just to finish the ending of this book! This is my second time reading this series. The first time was over 10 years ago. I love the world these books have created! This is book two and I have already started book three today!

pickWonderful addition to Lowry‘s impressive repertoire! Intrigued by the discovery of the 2,000-year-old Windeby bog body in Northern Germany in 1952, Lowry conjurés up an identity and backstory for the young person found there, pristinely preserved by the peat. The body was radiocarbon-dated to between 41 BC and 118 AD. Fascinating!

Next row of my #readinglogsnake is Women Warriors by Pamela D. Toler in honor of #WomensHistoryMonth. Orange representing nonfiction. This was a good read. I found out a lot about female warriors I was not aware of, like Lakshmi Bai, Buffalo Calf Road Woman, and Cheng I Sao to name a few. Highly recommend this book. 4/5 ⭐️ #ARRCReads #BooksAndCrafts
pickI loved Lowry‘s Anastasia Krupnik series and A Summer to Die in my girlhood so was excited to learn she shares my fascination with bog bodies. I enjoyed this. Might work well for a classroom, 5th grade maybe? It is written in such an interesting way, part fiction, part nonfiction. Lowry talks about the history and her writing, explaining how and why she went about telling the story, two versions, of what may have happened to this young person.
