I found this book used and enjoy the author‘s podcast. I thought I‘d check it out. It‘s been on my shelf for a while. Since I‘m up far too early, I‘m starting it. I‘m still trying to figure out if the Shakespearean insult mug is a result of careful planning for balance, or, more likely, happenstance. Coaster by my daughter. The nonfiction book I chose to focus on this month for my #2025nfbookchallenge is the 1689 London Baptist Confession. I think it‘ll be interesting to learn about the history of the denomination I was raised in. So far, I‘m finding it excellent. The statements are clear, considering the lingo from that year differs just a bit from today, and the many scriptures used to back each statement are solid.
pickPocket Bonaventure(not in database)is a thought-provoking look at the philosophy & spirituality of the Italian saint. I attended many classes by author Father Tom, a Franciscan Friar who made the lives of saints such as Bonaventure, Francis of Assisi & Thomas Aquinas very relatable in their struggles to understand God and the meaning of life. Tom loved his chihuahuas and also painted all the mesmerizing illustrations.

pickI‘m not sure why but I can‘t add the snapshot of my review. I really enjoyed reading this, even though it took me over, a year to get back to it. The questions at the end of each chapter made me think about what I‘d read and I got to journal my way through. I know this will help me get a better grasp of theology. pickIt‘s said that MLK Jr. was inspired by Thurman‘s work & often carried a copy of this book with him. Published in 1949, Thurman‘s insightful wisdom is (unfortunately) still fresh & relevant today. Thurman discusses how hatred destroys both the oppressor & the disinherited—and offers Jesus and the truth of the Gospel as an example to follow, in love and in resistance. It was the second time I‘ve read this, and I got even more out of it this time.
pickThis is concise and clear about the ways ideas are misrepresented in the Christian Bible. The book made clear again and again that the historical evidence that the New Testament was written a century or more after the events it depicts and not by the people they are attributed to; though, he never takes that step.

I‘m am SOOO enjoying this book! The pastor and associate pastor of my church recommended we all check it out. I thought I‘d add it to my #2025nfbookchallenge but instead of trying to cram this massive tome into one month, I‘m just going by chapters. I should finish it in April or early May. I love how each chapter is easy to understand and includes a memory verse, hymn, and contemporary worship song, as well as thought questions. #readmorebooks
My reading goals this year are to read at least 100 books. I wanted to make more of an effort to read nonfiction as well so I challenged myself to read one nonfiction book per month related to either theology, biography, or writing. I met the goal this month when I finished Tozer‘s “Divine Humilty”.
