The weather is awful and it‘s raining 🌧 all the time, so I‘m already thinking about books I could read in autumn 🍂. I would love your suggestions! This is my list so far:

The Secret History by Donna Tartt
Atlas Six by Olivie Blake
Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo
📖?

#autumn #TBR #needhelp #suggestionswelcome

TheBookHippie I put this aside for fall thinking it‘s a good fit 3y
TheBookHippie Anne of Green Gables is a fall read for me 🧡 3y
thewallflower0707 @TheBookHippie thank you! I read Anne of Green Gables three years ago, but I must say I preferred the Netflix adaption Anne with an E. 3y

1. SO many! They seem pretty hard to resist.
2. The biggest disappointment of a retelling was Gregory McGuire Hiddensee. I‘m obsessed with all things #Nutcracker, maybe I‘d like to find a good twist on that story. #suggestionswelcome!
3. Tagged and Stacked #ZombieFairyTales. How can you go wrong?

#sundayfunday

BookmarkTavern Zombie Fairy Tales has me cracking up. I may have to add that to my TBR too! Thanks for posting! 4y
Read-y_Picker @ozma.of.oz never knock zombie lol. They were my gateway to Austen as an adult... I‘ve got this one I my cart with my finger just kinda hovering over the checkout button 👇🛒👇📦📖🧟‍♀️🧟‍♀️ 4y
BookmarkTavern I love that so much! 😆 4y

How do you keep your reading journal? How do you decide what to add and what can go? I‘m starting a reading journal/commonplace book to help me keep track of what I‘ve read and keep notes on the books I may need or want to cite later. I‘m not sure HOW I‘m actually keeping the journal just yet. I‘ve come up with some tagging I‘ll use, but other than that I‘m still unsure how it‘s actually going to work out. I‘m just curious what other littens do.

Here is a link to the tagging system I‘ll be using. I‘ve tested it and it actually works really well. https://tinyurl.com/y9x8evcn

GingerAntics @Lmstraubie how do you go about keeping your reading journal? 6y

GingerAntics @Birdsong28 is that a book of instructions? 😳 That‘s daunting. 6y
Birdsong28 @GingerAntics No it's not instructions, it's a journal 6y
GingerAntics @Birdsong28 that‘s a relief. Is it all lists or is there room for notes? I definitely need room for notes. 6y
Birdsong28 @GingerAntics I'm not sure, I think there might be. I have only briefly looked through one. 📚📖 6y
GingerAntics @Birdsong28 I‘ll have to look into it. I need to be able to keep notes for the world of Shakespeare and nonfiction. 6y
Freespirit Hi #GingerAntics I log all completed books and ones I want to read with Goodreads. This year I also bought A Reading Log by Book Riot that includes challenges and room for notes and quotes. Not sure how it will go but I'm sure being a member of Litsy will inspire me😊😊 (edited) 6y
Lmstraubie Hi @GingerAntics For the past two years I've kept a list in a notebook separating titles by adult books, audiobooks, rereads, middle-grade/YA, but it hasn't given me much insight, just a list of books. I'm looking for a new strategy this year, but haven't decided yet. @Freespirit I also got the @bookriot journal, but it definitely won't be my main source of recording my reading. 6y
GingerAntics @Freespirit @Lmstraubie I have a notebook I‘m planning on using. I may get one with grid lines instead of just lines so it‘s easier to tag the edges, but I know each book is getting an entry, with the citation for it at the top...after that I think it will depend on the book in question as to what comes next. History books need different notes than psychology, and that‘s different still to Shakespeare, and all of that is different to novels. 6y
GingerAntics @Freespirit @Lmstraubie Luckily (and unfortunately) there is no wrong way to do any of this. 6y
BeansPage I'll post pics for you... 6y
GingerAntics @TheReadingMermaid oh you keep one too? I‘m never quite sure who does and who doesn‘t. 6y
BeansPage Of course I keep one silly. I have to keep track of all my craziness 🤪🤪🤪 6y
GingerAntics @TheReadingMermaid oh my god I feel like I‘m talking to myself in someone else‘s body right now!!! 🥰😍🥰 Litsy is way better than any other social media platform!!! 6y
GingerAntics @TheReadingMermaid @Freespirit @Lmstraubie I have to say, the strangest way I recorded this year‘s reading was a snapchat story (yes really). I tried keeping a digital record, but it forgot or didn‘t want to stop before the next book about half way through. I‘m hoping a written record will help me take the time to reflect...if nothing else, keeping a better record of my history books and Shakespeare plays will be easier this way, I think. (edited) 6y
BeansPage Mine is a little artsy but I really like it. I hope this helps give you some ideas 🤗 6y
GingerAntics @TheReadingMermaid It definitely helps. I hadn‘t thought of keeping a monthly list. From that, you could have a master list at the end of the year if you really wanted to. (edited) 6y
BeansPage Yup! 😉😉😉 6y
GingerAntics @TheReadingMermaid LOVING these little tidbits I hadn‘t thought of before. I‘m glad I asked this question. 6y
BeansPage 😘🤗😘 6y
ravenlee I started a journal this year (other attempts have failed, but this one seems to work for me). It‘s simple, divided by month. I list start/end dates (sometimes approx.); title/author; page number; genre. Then I give it a rating out of ten, then one line of plus and one line of minus. It keeps me brief and makes it easier to keep it going. 6y
Freespirit I like the idea of writing it in a journal rather than online @GingerAntics . Nice to hear what everybody else thinks xx 6y
GingerAntics @TheReadingMermaid @ravenlee I actually have this notebook three ring binder hybrid (it‘s hard to explain) that I suddenly thought of. I could shift pages around as necessary and then put it in a permanent binder or I could tie them together for safe keeping at the end of the year. Thoughts on this? 6y
BeansPage I think that sounds great. What it all boils down to is whatever works for you is what is going to work. Everybody can give you suggestions and ideas until they're blue in the face but until you find your niche it's just not going to work. I mean we're talking about self discipline here in keeping a tracking journal. 😁 6y
GingerAntics @TheReadingMermaid true. I‘m such a perfectionist, I think I‘m drawn to the idea of being able to shift things around if need be. I would think that would make me feel better in the end. The only reason I‘m not a fan of the idea is that the end product isn‘t going to be as nice looking, but that should really be secondary. I could even digitise it into a PDF if I wanted, at that point. I think I‘m going to give that a shot. Here‘s hoping. 🤞🏻 6y
BeansPage Remember you can always put the tentative ones in in pencil instead of using pen and then go over them later in pain so that way it looks nice in the end 6y
BeansPage *pen 6y
GingerAntics @TheReadingMermaid there is always that. I‘m not so sure about the “notes” book I have. It‘s a nice hardcover book, but the lines don‘t go all the way to the edge, so the tagging part will be more complicated than it would be if I used a different book. So many things to think about and so little time left to make decisions. 6y
BeansPage Amazon and Barnes and Noble and even Target or Walmart would have what you're looking for and then you can just pay stub templates inside of it the way I have done if that is what you want. You can make it work totally! 😁 6y
GingerAntics @TheReadingMermaid pay stub templates? What are those for? I‘ve seen some books I would love to use, but unfortunately the beginning of the year is always really tight with how we get paid at work, so at this point I have to made do with what I have already. 6y
BeansPage *paste on templates.... sorry my phone is retarded with the talk-to-text feature. 6y
BeansPage And yeah I totally get it. I'm sure money for everybody is really tight right now. but this is a great opportunity for you to see what does work for you so that way you can improve upon it maybe next year? 6y
GingerAntics @TheReadingMermaid push come to shove I have a reading journal/log set up in notes. I always intended to make it digital, so it would be searchable, later, so maybe I‘ll just end up trying to make digital work this year. I don‘t know. This is where I‘m just not even sure. 6y

My NaNoWriMo Dilemma. I'm open to any thoughts or suggestions anyone has as a reader or a writer.
#creativewriting #nanowrimo #litsynano #writersoflitsy #statusupdate #writingmarathon #shortstories #adviceneeded #suggestionswelcome

Jilly6183 I like both ideas but the second one appeals to me more. I love learning more about about a story/MC through the different perspectives of other characters 6y
GingerAntics @Jilly6183 that's the one I'm leaning toward for that reason...I keep wavering because I'm not sure if it's too out there. 6y
Jilly6183 @GingerAntics I don't think it's too out there at all. I think it's really intriguing! 6y
See All 15 Comments
GingerAntics @Jilly6183 in glad it makes sense to someone else. That makes me feel better. I kept talking myself out of that option. 6y
LibrarianRyan I think it would be interesting to do the side stories first, then the MC story. So it hints around what‘s going on, and it‘s reveled at the end. 6y
GingerAntics @LibrarianRyan hm...That's an interesting thought. I hadn't thought of that at all. Great, now I'm back to two choices again. lol Must consider this. 6y
GingerAntics @LibrarianRyan I'm organising the short stories and I'm looking at this. Your idea could be genius!!! You would see that the MC has disowned himself, but you'd have no idea WHY until later. Hm. I rather like this idea. I knew asking you geniuses would be a good idea!!! What do you think of flip flopping the order, @Jilly6183? 6y
LibrarianRyan @GingerAntics ⭐️🌟😃 6y
GingerAntics @LibrarianRyan @Jilly6183 giving my stories titles is always the hardest part for me. Often times the story is long since finished being written when I finally find the right title...but I think I've found it. If I do it this way with the story all sort of disjointed and not getting the full picture at once, I could all it "It All Fell Apart" or "Putting the Pieces Back Together" or "Rebuilding" and it fits the story and the format. (edited) 6y
twohectobooks My preference would be chronological. But then I am the type of reader who tends to skip appendices on the basis of the assumption that if the author wanted me to know the information they‘d find a way to include it in the main text. Not sure how common that is! 6y
Jilly6183 @GingerAntics @LibrarianRyan That's a really cool idea, too! IMO, there just needs to be some kind of reveal that makes reading the second half interesting and relevant. So either the secondary characters reveal something you couldn't get from the MC's story, or you get a story from the secondary characters and then the MC reveals the missing link (e.g., why he disowned himself). 6y
GingerAntics @twohectobooks really? Sometimes the best little tidbits are in the appendix because with the constraints of POV something couldn't have been known in the main text. I'm also used to reading the appendix in nonfiction so it's totally natural for me. lol Nothing would really be an appendix anyway. It's all part of the full picture as it were. They're like the bonus features on the dvd, just before the actual story. lol (edited) 6y
GingerAntics @Jilly6183 there would be several missing links, because other than a few places (that wouldn't answer any real questions) no part of the story proper is going to end up being told by secondary characters. That second half does need to be worth reading, and that's what makes me a little concerned with doing it that way. (edited) 6y
twohectobooks Yep, like I said, I‘m not sure how common this approach is. I‘m quite an impatient/lazy reader, apparently! I also find it funny that I‘m making this comment while reading House of Leaves for the second time, a book that‘s built on fully exploring a multitude of footnotes and appendices. Which I LOVE haha. 6y
GingerAntics @twohectobooks ROTFL I used to be that way until high school when my friends and I were all reading this book we loved. They were all taking about something and I had no idea what they were talking about. They promptly sent me back to the epilogue and appendix and I figured it out. lol 6y
