Kale, butternut squash, brown rice, and kohlrabi in a creamy garlic sauce accompanies today‘s lunchtime reading! (This eating-sensibly thing isn‘t so bad!) This book, however, is heartbreaking, and I‘m only about 90 pages in. #staywithme #ayobamiadebayo

This is the author's debut novel. It was such and easy read and hard to put down. You get invested in the strong characters right away. It's about the sacrifices and how far a couple will go to build a family based on the taboo "Western" beliefs that are still alive in Nigeria. It's heartbreaking because there is so much loss within the novel, but it leaves you with hope at the end. And I got to learn about another culture which was ?.

Pure beauty! I was completely invested in the characters and was anxiously waiting with each turn of the page to see how their stories unfolded. It was a heartbreaking journey to travel with Yejide through her life experiences as a mother and wife. I love the way this story was delivered with grace and authenticity.

Yejide and Akin met and fell in love in university. After years of trying to conceive and several tests, fertility doctors, medicine men nothing is working. Then forced into polygamy Yejide will do anything to get pregnant. But what this couple endure in the process is heartbreaking.
Beautifully written! So much emotion. Recommend picking this one up!

The end of another month & season are fast approaching. Even though the heat has been stifling this summer, & I'm ready for a new season. I'm looking forward to a few last summer hurrahs. I'm also planning on finishing up each of the novels pictured above. I'm at least half way through each, & plan to have them wrapped up before the end of August.
