⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A quick #reread before starting an #ARC of her new collection. Recycling my original review bc I‘m lazy:

Philpott reminds us that being an adult, even one who seemingly has everything, is hard and periodically sucks. Sometimes we have to step back and assess ourselves; tweak a few things or make drastic changes. As someone who has moved a lot, I understand that urge. I enjoyed these stories, but feel like they only scratch the surface.

This book is amazing. Tookie, a former felon who works in a bookstore In Minnesota owned by a certain author (so meta, right?) is the perfect protagonist in this meditation of trauma, belonging, grief and identity. The story takes place between November 2019 and November 2020 and perfectly captures that moment.

This was the best audiobook I‘ve listened to in a long time.

Evvie Drake had her suit case packed and was leaving her emotionally abusive husband when she received the phone call that he had died in a car accident. This is a story about loss when you feel freed rather than grieving and the guilt that comes with that. It was fantastic.

#MayMovieMagic The History of Love is a story within a story that traces the #OriginsOfLove for the curmudgeon Leo Gursky (whom I affectionately call #TheJewishOve ) A book that requires time and care as the dual stories are sometimes confusing. I loved Leo, so it bumped up my love for this book but it‘s not going to appeal to all readers. Still a book worth trying if you‘re seeking an unconventional love story.

I enjoyed this collection quite a bit. The stories more tightly focused on a woman‘s experiences and inner dialogue were fantastic, and this applies to the majority of them, really. (Just a few meandered in ways that worked less well for me.) I was impressed by Rosenwaike‘s writing, and many observations and themes definitely rang true to my pregnancy/new mom experiences with my now-tween boys. I‘d certainly read more from her!

Each time I read this book, I find something new to adore. I love the smart choices Stewart made with this book. He examines the fragility of civilization throughout the narrative. The story is a fun thought exercise. Although this story has a plot that has been done to death, I still think Earth Abides is one of the finest post-apocalyptic tales.

Fair warning: This book was written in 1949 and that‘s very obvious from the language used.

So very behind on my first attempt at a monthly photo challenge/prompt because things keep happening ? Anyway copying @madamereadsalot1 and doing a "dump post." The Girl Who Smiled Beads is on my TBR as is We Sold Our Souls (hear a lot of buzz about the author). I read & loved The Secret Life of Bees in HS and hope to reread someday. The Robert Frost poem is a favorite and Girl Wash Your Face is a self help book I might consider reading

I'm really behind on #sisforseptember but it's been chaos at work and busy when I get off. Anywho, here's a dump post to catch up. #sunset is on my tbr but haven't read yet. #smile is by one of my daughter's favorite authors. Her books are pretty cute. #secret is the one and only Mr. Potter! And I had to do some leg work for #sold but this is the closest I could find in relation to a book I've actually read or even heard of.
