Alias Grace: A Novel | Margaret Atwood

This is complex and layered with the perspectives of a young female convicted murderer and her psychiatrist. Set in the early 19th century, it also explores class and gender conventions of the time. Excellent historical fiction choice!

Scochrane26 I love this book, think I‘ve read it 3 times over the years. The miniseries is also excellent. 2y

This historical novel starts out in WWI France and quickly transitions to post war Prohibition Canada. I will definitely be reading more by this author.

Sea of Tranquility: A Novel | Emily St. John Mandel

Much has been said about this book and I too loved it. Once again ESJM has created characters who feel so real and human. Their relationships and fears, whether set in the past or the future, feel extra relatable now that we ourselves have just experienced a pandemic. But how Mandel writes about it makes COVID and current times even more scary. Yet I could have read on and on about those characters - in any time or place.

KarenUK So glad you loved it. 💕💕 3y
BarbaraBB @KarenUK @Megabooks I really did. I read it almost in one go! (edited) 3y
Nute Wonderful review, Barbara! Are her last three novels a series or companion reads or not related at all? I have Station Eleven and this book, but not The Glass Hotel. 3y
BarbaraBB @Nute they are a bit related but you can absolutely read them as stand-alone novels. I would however recommend The Glass Hotel anyway! It‘s very good and some characters return in this book. 3y
Nute Good to know. I‘m happy for the success of her writing career. Her novels seem to be very well liked. 3y

Each chapter shares a glimpse of Astra‘s development from an independent 6yr old to eventually an impassioned 60 year old. #PoP22 #ConstellationInTitle

This book finished my 50 book reading challenge! Yay! I first heard about this series on @annebogel 's "What Should I Read Next" podcast and to my delight this series is set in Canada! It's my first real foray into the mystery genre and I'm hooked! This is the second one in the series and though I found this one a little predictable apparently this series matures nicely in the third book. I'll let ya'll know :) #nslittens #setinCanada
