so-soMore of a so-so for me. The story itself wasn't bad, and I liked the Christmas customs, but the writing felt repetitive (e.g. saying several times per page that the protagonist's fiancée is pregnant: I got it, thanks!).
pick#norwegianbynight is excellent #scandinaviannoir. Sheldon Horowitz is old and has just moved from the US, to Norway with his granddaughter. He struggles to find familiarity and maybe experiencing dementia until one day, he helps the neighbours and ends up on the run thru the unfamiliar landscape with a young boy, using skills he thought he'd lost to save this young life. #derekbmiller has finely crafted an breathtaking story.
so-soAfter a promising start, this book just didn‘t really work for me. I have never managed properly to engage with Scandinavian noir, and this book didn‘t resolve that issue. I also felt that the links or references to ‘Macbeth‘ were just a little too contrived to work properly. This is the #planebook that will accompany me to San Francisco tomorrow. I‘m going to celebrate my dad‘s 80th birthday and it‘s where I grew up. Well, almost; I grew up just north of SF. It will be good to go home. And this book, a Norwegian thriller, will be my first foray into #nordicnoir #scandinaviannoir. 😀
