This was a nonfiction piece that was originally intended to be an expose‘ on the commercialism and corruption of Christmas. Instead, it became a slice of life piece of the suburb of Frisco Texas as it prepares for the Christmas 2006 holiday. The author follows the stories of Tammie, a home decorator; Jeff & Bridgett, homeowners with a ridiculous light display; and Carol, a single mother.

This was a reread/listen for me and I absolutely love it!

Janesville: An American Story | Amy Goldstein

My last Nonfiction November read for 2024. This book was excellent. It was about Janesville, Wisconsin and what happened in the 5 years after the GM plant in town closed. I‘m glad I got to this one finally.

Beautifully written, but relentlessly bleak and heart breaking. Desperate people in desperate situations doing desperate things, and each judging each other. But again, the writing was stellar, and the format intriguing. One you read when you're in the mood for a sad book.
