I really think everyone should read this book about a refugee family. It really cuts through a lot of the politics and shows the human side of the issue. One of those books that I‘m not sure why more people aren‘t talking about it.

The People in the Trees: A Novel | Hanya Yanagihara

This is a very tough book. Very controversial as well. It‘s about a scientist who observes an indigenous group of people in #Micronesia. He takes some of them to the US for further study. It‘s all so disgusting and this is just the beginning. But this is Yanagihara so I should have known what to expect. I‘m left with a bitter taste yet that‘s exactly what she aimed for probably. A pick of course.

Another book I never would have read if it weren‘t for a Litsy challenge. In this book a hobbyist searches for the missing people in #Palau - the scene of some of the bloodiest battles of WWII. I found this short book to be very interesting. #ReadingOceania24

Quite chaotic, this book. And this family. But so funny and loving. I don‘t have much to add to what others have already said but I wouldn‘t have mind spending more time with Greta & Valdin or have people like them in my inner circle. A feel-good book!

Suet624 I just spent time trying to find this book in print in my local libraries. I'm finding that the libraries are now ordering an awful lot of audiobooks and ebooks, which I don't really like. Finally found a library with the actual book - now I am on a very long waiting list. :) 4mo

This is a read at your own pace #buddyread , with titles selected by the group and announced at the beginning of the year. The other monthly is #NancyDrewBR . I cohost with @Andrew65 the #SeriesLove2024 and I believe it is the 4th year and I plan to continue it in 2025. I also host the #LitsySciFiBookClub and plan to continue as long as there is interest. I also just started #BDBBookClub #BDBBuddyRead which is in the 2nd month. This book club is reading... 6mo

TheSpineView ...the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J. R. Ward in order and will run through the entire series as long as there is interest to continue. Lastly, is the #Two4Tuesday game played every Tuesday. It is in it's fifth year with no plans to stop. 6mo

julieclair I host #SeasonalCozies - each month everyone chooses a cozy mystery to read based on a holiday that month or season of the year. I will continue this next year if there is interest. I also host #ReadOrDonate - each month everyone chooses a book to read that has been sitting on their shelves forever. If the book remains unread at the end of the month, it must be donated somewhere. This will continue next year. Both of these started this year. 6mo

julieclair And lastly, I host #MonthlyMagazineBlitz - each month everyone reads all the magazines they own from that month - no matter what year they are from. The magazines are then donated to local organizations that can use them. The goal is to clean out our stacks of back issues. This started this year, and will not continue next year, as (hopefully!) we all will have decluttered our magazine piles. 6mo

I got this free on a stuff your kindle day. Those books can be hit or miss but this one wasn‘t half bad. A cozy mystery set in New Zealand post WWI. I wish it were illustrated because the dresses the seamstress/ sleuth described sounded amazing! #ReadingOceania24
