Off to Newcastle for food and shopping 🤍

I bought my kindle to read Greta and Valdin on the train but I can‘t stop listening to the tagged book.

Amiable My family thinks I‘m weird, but I love traveling by train! I used to commute to work on the train before the pandemic. And whenever we visit our son in Baltimore, I insist on the train. That‘s one of the things I love about Europe—more trains than the U.S.! 🙂 2w
TheKidUpstairs @Amiable I agree! Train travel is the best travel 🚄 2w
Amiable @TheKidUpstairs Yes! When it works, that is. Amtrak is either really, really good or completely horrible. There doesn‘t seem to be a middle ground. 😖😀 My husband and I traveled around Belgium and the Netherlands by train several years ago, and we were amazed that everything kept on schedule! We‘re going to Scotland in April and planning to get around there by train, too. 🤞🏼 2w

BarbaraBB I love train travel too! But it‘s so slooooow in the US @Amiable @TheKidUpstairs I traveled by Amtrak from Salt Lake City to Chicago a few years ago and it took forever because the train never picked up speed! Still loved it though, scenery was amazing 🥰 (edited) 2w
BarbaraBB Enjoy your trip Katie, I haven‘t heard of the tagged book! 2w
squirrelbrain Have a great time! 2w
TheKidUpstairs @Amiable @BarbaraBB it's true, North American train travel doesn't quite live up to the accessibility of other places, but it's still a lovely way to travel. One of my dream trips is to take the train from Toronto across country to Vancouver! 2w
TheKidUpstairs The tagged sounds really good, I'm stacking it. I hope you do get to Greta and Valdin, too, though - it was one of my absolute favourites last year! 2w
BarbaraBB @TheKidUpstairs That sounds awesome. I‘s want to make another trip by train across the US. But I might wait for another 4 years 1w
Cathythoughts Sounds like a good day ♥️ 1w
youneverarrived @Amiable I love travelling by train too. It‘s been a good few years since I‘ve done a train journey on my own. The trains I travelled on in the US were slower but had no problems with them - I imagine it‘s different actually using them regularly though. The best place I‘ve been to for train travel was Switzerland - so scenic and always on time. Scotland is lovely I hope you enjoy your time there in April. 1w
youneverarrived @BarbaraBB thank you! I don‘t remember how I heard about it but I‘m glad I did. 1w
youneverarrived @Cathythoughts it was so nice to just be ‘me‘ for a day 🥰 1w
youneverarrived @TheKidUpstairs I think you would like it. I read Greta and Valdin on the way back. I‘m halfway through and loving it. 1w

What a wonderful collection of essays on reading!

This book is a collection of personal essays on the impact of books and reading on the author‘s life. I found many of them relatable. One of my favorites was “To Break The Rules” (pg. 65) which discusses how there is no right way to be a “Good Reader.” We should read how and what we want. I wholeheartedly agree!

KathyWheeler That one about breaking the rules was my favorite too. 11mo
