A strange and obscure little book written in the 1920s, about a rural Ohio woman torn between her husband and a lover. As Dawn Powell‘s biographer puts it well, this novel reads as romance fiction but with all the dark and bleak stylization of a Theodore Dreiser story.
I get transported back to Painters Mill every time I read one of Linda Castillo's Kate Burkholder Series books. Burkholder has to figure out who is doing hate crimes toward the Amish. Is there more than meets the eye with these crimes. If you haven't read this series, you should give it a try.
😊 Happy Reading 😊

I‘ve been on a bit of a kick the last week or so. When I think of Amish mysteries, somehow this is not what I expected. These mysteries are some of the goriest books I‘ve read in a while! However, I obviously must be enjoying them- it‘s like I can‘t look away. I love them! Think I am ready for a brief break though; time for another direction.
2nd book in Kate Burkholder Series by Linda Castillo. Enjoying this series. Such good character development.

I have read some of this series, and not others, so I decided I would start with the 1st one in the Kate Burkholder Series and read them all in order. This way, I figure I will not skip one.

This was a great book! It's been a long time since I started a book in the morning and finished it the same night.
This one has lots of romance tropes—enemies-to-lovers, only 1 bed, etc. The MC decides to fake being in her sister‘s role after her boss invites himself to dinner. He thinks she owns & runs a farm, but it‘s really her sister. Then, they get snowed in. PG rated romance. I enjoyed this story, it‘s a fun holiday book for light reading.
I‘m posting one book a day from my massive collection. No description, no reason for why I want to read it (some I‘ve had so long I don‘t even remember why!). Feel free to join in!

Maybe because I grew up in Ohio I thought I would like this book & maybe relate to it. It was hard for me to get into. The writing was very descriptive and somewhat confusing to me. I have to say that the climax was very disturbing. I hate to give it a thumbs down but I really wouldn‘t recommend it.
