Meh. I read it, but it wasn‘t anything special despite all the accolades. Patty is just getting out of prison after serving five years for aggravated child abuse. Her daughter Rose Gold reluctantly (?) invites her to live with her and her newborn, Adam. Who‘s telling the truth? Who cares?
244 pages of oh my god, of horror. The author describes how her mother stole her innocence from her by deliberately making her sick. But, she continued to do this to the other children she fostered as well. Julie describes a house constantly full of gaslighting, abuse—both mental and physical. After years of suffering, she discovered there was a name for what her mother did to her, via a psych class. Processing this might have been worse⬇️
Tanya Reid is a nurse and a mother. When her baby son, Michael, is taken to the hospital one to many times in a matter of months, the doctors and nurses start suspecting Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy (MSbP). It's the late 1980's and this is a new term in the medical field. Soon, Melodee Hanes gets her Trauma Team in the DA's office to start an investigation.
Tanya, known as Tonto by family, says she's innocent. She would never harm her child⬇️
This is very timely with the controversy over the Gypsy Rose Blanchard case getting so much attention recently. One would have to assume that some of the parallels are no coincidence even down to the names and parts of the story. It‘s an interesting take on what would have happened if the story had ended differently. I‘m not sure how I feel in the end of this one because both characters are unlikable in their own ways but sympathetic, as well.
This suspenseful novel starts when Zoe was only 10. Her little sister died from leukemia and both parents were devastated so deeply that Zoe was mostly ignored and had to fend for herself. After the parents‘ divorce, she found her soulmate and became a mother. That‘s when the darkness appeared…hard to put down. Fascinating.

TODAY‘S PROMPT: GOLD
THRILLER - SUSPENSE
For eighteen years Rose Gold was told by her mother that she was ill with some disease that no one could figure out.
DARLING ROSE GOLD is a tense, chilling book, but is very well written. You won‘t want to put the book down.

This was just okay for me. It was slow-paced and underwhelming, IMO.
#bookspinbingo - got a bingo!
Plot twist. Plot twist. Plot twist. This book kept me on the edge of my seat and bouncing my legs in anticipation. I nearly read it in one sitting. Definitely a must read!
This is a super uncomfortable read. Take a look inside the twisted mind of a psychopath and the messed up girl who was her longest lasting victim. There are many OMG and WTF moments that highlight just how damaging abuse and neglect are.
