This was a quick read. I liked reading from the two different characters' perspectives.
The slang was really well done too.

Lizpixie Wow, that hit a few challenges! I very much enjoyed this stand-alone YA mystery about three cousins who are invited to the Connecticut Island owned by the rich grandmother they‘ve never met. Secrets & lies come bubbling out of course, but the ending was a surprise which doesn‘t happen often to me. 4.5⭐️ 4y

A class of 5th graders writes all genres of poetry to be placed in a time capsule-their school will be demolished at year‘s end. Beautiful story, so human and vulnerable.

A great depiction of the #CivilWar for #middlegrade with much of the novel set in Andersonville Prison.

I just spent the past 6.5 hours reading and it was glorious.

This was a perfect mindless read after a few stressful weeks of work. It was a bit shallow, probably because it‘s the story of 5 people and covers 4 years. Despite that, I think it was still a pretty accurate depiction of high school.

I read this novel-in-verse for the children‘s book club I run.

It‘s made up of journal entries, assigned to a fifth-grade class by their hippie English teacher. Their school‘s in danger of being torn-down to make way for a supermarket & she sees that they might need a creative outlet for their feelings. This conceit allows the author to develop a whole cast of characters in not-so-many words, & play with form in a kid-friendly, accessible way. 🤗

This one was pretty good. It‘s got some language and mature content so I wouldn‘t recommend to my 6th graders, but overall it was a fun read. The book was fast paced, broken up into sections of 5 characters, not in any specific order. I still would have liked it even more if it was read with a male and a female narrator to signify the gender of the speaker for the chapter. There was humor, too! It‘s a novel I‘d suggest to others.
