Pickpick

60 unsolved disappearances & murders from the UK, ranging from the 1950s until the present-day. From cases I have never heard of, to the more well-known ones such as the murder of Jill Dando, the chapters are fairly short with less than 10 pages per case which keeps things to the point & concentrates on the known facts.

It seems really weird to say that you enjoyed reading a book about unsolved murders, but it was a really interesting read.

OutsmartYourShelf It was rather shocking that so many cases are still unsolved, some after 70+ years, & also sad to realise that many are unlikely to ever be solved now & if they are the relatives of the victim have already passed away & will never know the truth. I appreciated that the author signposted other books about some of the cases for further reading, & also included contact details/case numbers for the open cases in case anyone should have information. 10mo
OutsmartYourShelf Overall it's a fascinating read & it's a must for any true crime reader. 4.5🌟

My thanks to #NetGalley & publishers, Pen & Sword True Crime, for the opportunity to read an ARC.

Wow!!! This book

Here Cat Bohannon is talking about sound and different wavelengths that men and women hear up to.

Who knew that men actually stop hearing high pitched noises?

squirrelbrain I need to read more of this one - got distracted by others from the list, which are library books so need to go back soon. 10mo
Crazeedi This sounds very interesting, and yes my husband just got hearing aids, his high pitch sounds are basically gone in one ear. Stacking #Litsytbr #mountaintbr 10mo
WildAlaskaBibliophile That's interesting. My dad who is profoundly deaf can hear high-pitched squeaking noises but has difficulty understanding speech. 10mo

AnneCecilie @squirrelbrain I‘m learning so much from this. But I absolutely understand the need to read library books first. 10mo
squirrelbrain And then of course there‘s the Fiction long list tomorrow! 🤯🤪😃 10mo
AnneCecilie @Crazeedi The book says that men start loosing the ability to hear high pitched sounds from the age of 25. 10mo
AnneCecilie @WildAlaskaBibliophile The book doesn‘t explain that 10mo
AnneCecilie @squirrelbrain I‘m looking forward to it. I hope I have read some, but I always look forward to what completely new to me author will be there that will be a new favorite book/ author 10mo

So, I started this book and I'm really enjoying it so far - for obvious reasons! ? And I came across this quote that really moved me!

"The most important reason I've remained a reader is because the act of reading makes me feel safe. The influx of information. The transport to other lives, other worlds."

I have never really heard that put into words before, but I felt it resonate deep within my heart! ?? Anyone else feel this way too?

Bonus cover .Since @batsy posted an Avon cover of Gabriela ,Clove and Cinnamon thought I would post another Avon Amado. Both are on my TBR. #1980sCovers

arubabookwoman Amado was my introduction to Latin American literature with both Gabriela and Dona Flor in those exact Avon editions sometime around the late 70s early 80s. I still have Gabriela (and a couple of others by Amado), but Dona Flor got lost somewhere along the way. 5y
Leftcoastzen @arubabookwoman cool story! Readers can definitely tell their story through the books that they have read. Need to get to this #mountainTBR 5y
batsy Oh, that's a stunner 😍 Thanks for sharing. I've yet to read Gabriela but if I were to buy more of his books these are the editions I covet! 5y
