This was a great P&P retelling! I am shocked it‘s not more popular. The audio was great, too.

Senna does excellent work layering the texture with tension. First and foremost, there is Jane's own mixed-race identity and how it does/doesn't interact with both her personal and professional life. The book is more a tragicomedy than anything else, and the humor is sardonic. #TournamentofBooks2025 #TOB2025 #TOB25

I fade into you…

Inspiration taken from this song I‘ve been obsessed with since it came out, from the show Nashville:

Race and civil rights in the early 1960s in LA are the setting for this historical thriller. I found the characters interesting. There were discussions of the Korean War, a photographer and part time server of warrants. Martin Luther King was involved near the end of the book. Harry was the photographer who was capturing history in his pictures. 3.5/5

I found this very readable, but not relatable. Jane has taken 10 years to write her second novel. In those years she and her husband have barely scraped by, moving their kids every year. Now that she has finished it, Jane feels that they will finally be able to have the life she has always wanted. Her efforts to find success wreak havoc in her life. Only 3 of 5 ⭐️ for this one.

Doing the backyard cozy mystery thing with my new pal Finian. DEATH BY BUBBLE TEA is a bit slow to gain momentum, but it‘s the first in a series so I‘m willing to give it some time to establish the characters and the community.

A few good ones this month. James was well done and I loved learning more about Eve. Boots on The Ground was also good, I liked reading about veteran‘s experiences and it gave good insight.

I bucket this into my favorite type of book "Women going a bit mad because of life" but Jane ..oh, Jane is really not doing anything to help herself here. I thought Senna did a great job of ramping up the uncomfortableness as we go along, the worse Jane did the more panicked I felt for her family. The writing is well done and tight I think it would be great for open minded bookclubs who can handle uncomfortable race conversations
