Beautiful book (with lovely thick pages)! My heart breaks for Tarek, Ali, and Rafik.

This science fiction short story features in two of Bradbury's collections: A MEDICINE FOR MELANCHOLY and S IS FOR SPACE. Neither disappoints. Loved teaching this one in my science fiction unit. Bradbury's prose is poetic and terrifying.
Originally Two Stories consisted of “Three Jews” by Leonard and “The Mark on the Wall” by Virginia.
Who knew that it was possible to get so many thoughts from looking at a mark on the wall? In the introduction to the story it said that this is when we first see the author Virginia is to become and I can see that.
This edition contains a story by Mark Haddon titled “St Brides Bay” which seems to mirror Virginia‘s writing style.
#VirginiaBloomsberries September #buddyread is Two Stories. This is her 2nd publication from 1917. It was published by The Hogarth Press, set up by Leonard and Virginia Woolf. I'm reading the centennial copy with a commisioned essay by Mark Haddon.
A discussion thread will be posted at the end of the month.

Books scored at the Singleton PCYC book sale last Friday. It‘s 2nd last day as I couldn‘t make the day either side. There were so many books it was overwhelming. I managed a quick glance through all the boxes. I‘d already been to 2 op shops so this was all I could carry. I was sore the next day. Grand total $13.

I moved to London when I was 21. I didn't know a single person there. I explored London through Dickens and loved every minute of it. I certainly came to know and love the place very quickly.
Probably both.
Patca is on the run, seeking refuge with her uncle. Unfortunately, when she gets to Bucharest, she finds her uncle murdered, her family book of magical recipes missing, & a city in chaos.
Patca was such a plucky protagonist. She's only 14 years old, but immediately takes charge of her own life. & the magic! I loved the magic of the recipes!
The style took some getting used to, I definitely had to reread some sections in the beginning. 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
