This book was a bit of a mixed bag for me. The plot is good and the dog bits are cute, but the writing is poor and there‘s an undercurrent of misogyny in the book that I can never get behind. I wouldn‘t be interested in reading this author again.

A friend gave me this book, which I would likely have chosen. It was excellent—such an interesting part of history with the British Raj orphans. Lovely.

I enjoyed the chemistry between Truly and Colin. It was flirtatious and sexy—even if I wanted to get to know them both deeper. Or in more contexts? The plot focused on Truly doing one woman Parent Trap in a way that activated my second-hand embarrassment. I can appreciate a good crisis; it just had her coming off immature. I enjoyed the stuff with Colin‘s family- or more seeing Colin and Truly as a team within that context—as a balance to this.

8-24-24: My 30th finished book of 2024! Book 6 in the series. This one picked up a bit more than the others have. Reggie Heath, barrister, has finally married his love, the famous Laura Rankin. Due to an immense amount of paparazzi, they fly to her hometown of Bodfyn, to honeymoon and hide out. But, Laura saw a Sherlock Holmes letter requesting her to return home to Bodfyn and once there a sinister man from her past shows up to sacrifice her.

These required I get out of my very much older head to inhabit my inner middle-grade self, then yeah, these are fun. I grew up with absolutely no reference to the legal system. I think it could have been enlightening to read of a 13-yo that loved the law and courtroom as much as other kids love sports, music, art… 👇

marleed I‘m several years into reading (or occasionally rereading) the John Grisham canon, and decided I‘d be amiss if I ignored this series. So thank you @TheAromaOfBooks for providing me the challenge to push these off my TBR. I read the first three for my bookspin! 3mo
Mshookquilts I enjoyed these too. I don‘t think I read beyond the 1st 3 though. 3mo
