Have you read this book? And look at that gorgeous cover.
Begins with an excerpt from a murder trial then moved to alternating chapters and told of the life of high society and how they adapted social protocol to whatever they wanted.
Beautifully written as all of Ms. Williams‘ books even though it took me a while to get connected.
Patterned after an opera titled Der Rosenkavalie.

Today‘s Prompt: TAN/BEIGE
A CERTAIN AGE began with an excerpt from a murder trial then moved to alternating chapters and told of the life of high society and how they adapted social protocol to whatever they wanted.
Beautifully written as all of Ms. Williams‘ books even though it took me a while to get connected, but it was still enjoyable.

Beatriz Williams was my choice this month for the #BacklistReadathon
I wanted more of the 1998 story and less of the prohibition story on this one, but it was still enjoyable. I‘ll probably read the sequel at some point.
I wouldn't mind living in a building haunted by jazz playing ghosts 👻🎷🎹

Finished this up on audio today. I enjoyed this historical fiction set in Prohibition NYC. The little bit of magical realism in the present day storyline seemed unnecessary. Looking forward to the sequel but not sure it will be anytime soon. So many books, so little time!
For some reason I thought this was going to be set in 1920s Chicago which would have been just fine with me. I‘m delighted to find its set in 1920s NYC and I‘m flying through it so far. I love when a book sucks me in from the get go.
