🎞 1940s P & P. I could let it go that the clothes and hair are all wrong, if they hadn't cut so much of the story. It made Elizabeth and Darcy falling in love come out of nowhere.

It's been a long time since I rewatched the complete Masterpiece Theatre 1980 P & P that introduced teenage me to Jane Austen. I liked Elizabeth! Had forgotten how uptight Darcy was in this one. ⬇️

🗓 I've got Thursday blocked off for my Date with Colin Firth Darcy. And then Friday I'm heading to theater with neice for 2005 Mathew McFadden Darcy.

The first book from these authors, an adaptation of Emma, was an unexpectedly fun and enjoyable read for me and I'd really been looking forward to this P&P companion. I'm happy to say that it didn't disappoint! I loved the characterization of the Bennet sisters here and the Lydia/Wickham twist was a fun play on the original. The potential for both a Persuasion and S&S set in the same world is teased here, and i hope we get them- I'd read eagerly!

DebinHawaii I‘m reading this one too this month! 🤗 2d

Keeping it reasonable for my April #PemberLittens reading! I've never read Longbourn (!) so it's time, and I can't wait for Jane Austen's Bookshelf. I loved Price's funny S&S mystery so I'm glad to be reading what came before it and Bellezza/Harding's Emma adaptation was so clever that I bought the tagged book the instant it was released. I waited a long time to read it but now seems like the perfect moment, as a kickoff to a month of adaptations.

Thanks for the #BAndBDay (Book and Beverage Day) tag @TheSpineView 🤗

I woke up earlier with a bad headache & now I‘m tucked in on the couch with green tea and the Pride and Prejudice 1995 series on. Hoping the tea & Excedrin (& Colin Firth) work their magic so I can continue with this book that needs to go back to the library soon, but if not there‘s nothing wrong with a BAndB & PAndP Day! 😉

Ruthiella The medicinal properties of Colin Firth! 👍 Hope you feel better soon. ❤️ 3w

Stunningly beautiful book. Loved illustrations & memorabilia. Saved for #JaneAustenThenAndNow. 👍for Presentation. Keeping for that reason & because it was gift from a friend. But👎for commentary. I have THOUGHTS #PemberLittens!

Elizabeth Bennet was joking when she said she fell in love with Darcy on “my first seeing his beautiful grounds at Pemberley.”

My next comment has Spoilers for Mansfield Park. 👇

Crinoline_Laphroaig We may not completely ostracize a woman who leaves her husband and runs off with another man like Maria Rushworth but don't act like most people these days would think nothing of it. 2mo
Crinoline_Laphroaig My BIGGEST complaint is
what author calls 'The Complicated Henry Tilney.'

"Northanger Abbey reads as a lighthearted novel, but Henry Tilney doesn't seem to fit, in part because he doesn't come across as lighthearted."

Northanger Abbey is close 2nd to Pride and Prejudice as my favorite Austen. And Henry Tilney is one of my favorite characters. Yes he
has some serious moments but for the most part he is a charming man with a sunny disposition.

Crinoline_Laphroaig Author asks if Jane was in a bad mood when she wrote. Jane wrote Northanger Abbey as a very young woman and she was poking fun at Gothic Novels. So many people don't get that it's very tongue in cheek. 👇 2mo

Crinoline_Laphroaig Enjoy it without trying to over analyze it. Sometimes the curtains are just blue or in this case Henry Tilney is just a lively young man who falls for a sweet young woman. End of Rant. 2mo
TheBookHippie No. Not our Henry. No. 😭😩 We love him. 2mo
Deblovestoread My niece, dad and I were discussing JA over Christmas and talking favorites and NA and Henry is her favorite just for the reasons you listed. 2mo
Andrea313 Henry not lighthearted?! With a few exceptions, all the man does is poke lighthearted fun at everything and everyone. I have to admit, I'm curious to read the author's view even though I think I'd adamantly disagree. 2mo
bookandbedandtea I don't know how anyone could read NA and come away thinking Henry "isn't lighthearted." 2mo
Crinoline_Laphroaig @Andrea313 it's only few paragraphs long and it made me rant hard. 2mo

This afternoon I introduced my grandson to the dot game 🥰 & read Willoughby's Crossroads by Joana Starnes from this anthology for #JaneAustenThenAndNow
Ending just after he meets the Dashwood ladies it offers some possibilities about his experiences & state of mind in the months prior to S&S. It was good. I'm eager to read the other stories but I'll wait to read each story until I reread the original each one goes with. @Crinoline_Laphroaig

Crinoline_Laphroaig I'm looking forward to all the stories in this one. 2mo

The Prayers of Jane Austen | Jane Austen, Terry Glaspey

A beautiful collection of prayers written by Jane Austen. It also includes a brief bio of her life. The final prayer is my favorite and is one I'll return to. I love her novels so much, it was sweet to see this different side of her writing.
