#IDLR #InDeathLongReadalong Book 18: Sorry for the quick turnaround on this one but January is nearly upon us and what better way to start the year than with Eve and Roarke? We‘re on to Book 18 to start off 2026 - not bad considering we‘ve taken a few brief hiatus. Thank you to those who are still reading along; if you‘d like to be removed from the main tag list please let us know.

#InDeathLongReadathon @StayCurious Thanks for being my co-host..
This is book 17.5 book in the series containing 2 books. It was different. A case that was never solved ends up in Eve Dallas lap years later. We see characters grow as well both in the 1st and 2nd half of the book. I enjoyed this month's book in the series very much. #Read2025 @DieAReader

#IDLR #InDeathLongReadalong Book 17.5: The novels Hot Rocks and Big Jack, put together in Remember When, made a great pairing. I liked these two shorter novels. I liked the trouble from the past, then the solving and closing the case with Dallas in 2059. By far the best part was Peabody establishing her detective moves and finding her groove with looking the part. These books were worth the read.⬇️

StayCurious It was interesting how it was all resolved, the diamonds hidden but really in plain sight all along. The killer must be kicking himself for not realizing sooner. 24h
Ddzmini I really enjoyed this combination with both stories connected and when the diamonds are found in a toy truck hilarious and genius… I liked that it ended with this discovery 23h
TheAromaofBooks I enjoyed these so much! Peabody was 100% my favorite part of Big Jack - she was absolutely cracking me up. 23h

Solid police procedural thriller - set in a fictional future version of NYC. I haven‘t read anything else in this In Death universe and this is book #58 - so clearly a lot of character connection that I arguably missed not reading the others, but the author does a decent job of giving you the gist even if you‘re coming in cold. I definitely walked away enjoying Eve…and hunky Roarke.

It gave me The Closer vibes. 🥹 #AuthorAMonth

BookishMarginalia One of my favorite series, and definitely among my top partnerships! 7d
Melismatic @BookishMarginalia I get why! They are very shippable lol 7d

I gave up this series about 10 years ago & there are around 20 new books in it. 😳 For #AuthorAMonth I picked up where I left off. It's a good, readable story of but I can't say I can really get behind a cop heroine and billionaire hero these days. Throw in a lot of sexual violence and a nasty prison rape comment and I'm pretty sure I'm not going to catch up with the missing 20 plus however many new ones there are since I started that sentence.

Soubhiville Understandable, and I‘m with you. 1w

#IDLR #InDeathLongReadalong Book 17.5 Ch.1-8: we‘re back in 2059 with Eve, Roarke, and Eve‘s new partner Peabody. It is interesting seeing the changing dynamic between the two. It‘s interesting seeing Peabody without her uniform! I think she‘s fitting into her new role well and it‘s great to see. It‘s cool how this book aligns with the previous story, and how some diamonds were never recovered. Are we thinking the killer is Crew‘s grandson? ⬇️

StayCurious I think that‘s what was alluded to. I guess crazy can sometimes run in the family. This guy‘s vicious and needs to be stopped. (edited) 1w
LiseWorks I love the banter with Eve and Peabody. She is not a scared police officer. She is a detective. 1w
TheAromaofBooks Peabody has been my favorite part of this book. I love that she is trying to find her “look“ 😂 I'm so curious as to who the villain is - he has to be related to Crewe, right? Maybe a grandson? 1w
Ddzmini I really enjoy how much you learn about investigative work and how all the characters are committed to finding the clues to what occurred in the crimes committed. Also love how Eve‘s continued relationships are developing and yes Peabody‘ s changing looks are great 😊 📖 1w

“Ironman, but not like Ripken.“ Her eyes narrowed. “Is this porn?“

He laughed. “It isn't, no.“

“Ironman sounds suspicious to me. What are the others?“

“There's Thor, the Hulk,“ he began.

“Sounds like porn.“

#authoramonth complete. I was on the fence about reading any Nora Roberts after not enjoying one of her fantasy series, but decided I'd give one of her mysteries a try.

Unfortunately, still not a fan. The main murder mystery was interesting. Everything else...not so much. A theme in the few books I've read by her is lazy world building, and that continued with this book set in future times.

Also, why is this cover so terrible?

@Soubhiville

IriDas Very weird cover. I‘m also not a fan of the author.. I‘ve read two of her books and I just don‘t get the excitement. 2w
