Really good short accounts of black individuals in the U. S. who succeeded despite hardships.

I'm going to read this short book I found in the Children's area of Salt Lake City public library (downtown main location). Look's interesting!

Made a non-serious attempt at reading this 2 years ago but it was a little bit too difficult and dense for me then. Have the audiobook to help me along this time, which is a medium I‘m new to. Although it‘s really helping me with her prose I feel like text processed this way has a shorter half-life. It gives a strong impression but details of it leaves sooner. For that reason I vary reading with listening.

A really well told quest of a great granddaughter‘s determination to reunite her great grandfather‘s paintings that were separated & scattered during WWII. Moshe Rynecki vividly & painstakingly painted Jewish daily life in Poland from the early 1900‘s until his deportation to the Warsaw Ghetto in 1940. A truly heart filled memoir. #Pop21 #AboutArt #Nonfiction21 #AboutFamily #Booked21 #ContainsPhotographs

“We are the shoes, we are the last witness”
Last year I had the privilege of seeing the room of shoes at Majdanek Death Camp and like @Erynecki it left me haunted. Each shoe once belonged to a living person whose life was extinguished there. It was the most humbling and emotionally exhausting experience. To know that such a gifted artist last stood there makes this book feel very personal to me as well.

Cuilin Felt the same when I saw the eye glasses and shoes at Auschwitz. Something about the volume that just breaks your heart. 4y

Eggs I read recently that a horrifyingly low percentage of younger humans today do not know about/believe the Holocaust 😞 4y

Nute I‘ll be searching for this book today. These stories must be told and never forgotten! 4y
Cinfhen I totally lost it when I saw all the human hair @Cuilin 💔💔The magnitude of what I was seeing was too much. And also the suitcases, with their names and addresses, as if they would one day be retuning 😭 4y
Cinfhen Thank you all for reading and commenting @emilyhaldi @Eggs @Reviewsbylola @BarbaraBB @Nute These stories MUST be shared!! I just read that over 900 Holocaust survivors have passed away in Israel alone from Covid😢Soon there will be no more survivors to bare witness. 4y
Deblovestoread This hurts my heart. But our hearts need to hurt and remember and do everything we can so it doesn‘t happen again and after the last 4 years in the US I see how close it can. 4y
Cinfhen The rise of Anti-Semitism and how mainstream it‘s become is VERY FRIGHTENING @Kdgordon88 my heart hurts too 😘I‘m grateful for people like you who recognize how quickly things can escalate and are aware to call it out. Thank You ❤️ 4y
Crazeedi @Cinfhen when I visited the holocaust museum in DC they had shoes and hair behind glass. I could hardly keep from sobbing during that whole walk through that museum. It stayed with me for weeks. I have read many book fiction and NF since my teenage years. I cant even comprehend the evil on one hand and the courage and resilience on the other. ⬇️ 4y
Crazeedi My heart has always held the Jewish people in a special place. #neverforget and we have to stand against any kind of discrimination and antisemitism. My prayers are for peace and love to rule the nations 4y
Cinfhen MUCH LOVE to you @Crazeedi 💜💜💜 4y

“I know I‘m not talented like James Michener...but I have stories to tell. And I must, because I am a survivor, and if I do not write them, who will?” 💔#Truth #WeRemember #NeverAgain This book is so good. Thanks for putting it back on my #ReadersRadar @tpixie Fits multiple challenges too!!!

Cinfhen I‘m very much enjoying this beautiful testament to your family @Erynecki and the art work is so emotionally inspiring. I visited Poland last year as part of a Jewish Heritage trip and I see through your great grandfather‘s work the streets and scenes I imagined daily. 4y
tpixie @Cinfhen I‘m so glad you are enjoying it! I read it over one year ago and it still resonates for me. I love Moshe‘s artwork! There is a movie out too, I still need to watch it. (edited) 4y
Libby1 This book and Moshe Rynecki‘s art are just beautiful. 4y

The art of leadership consists of consolidating the attention of the people against a single adversary and taking care that nothing will split up this attention...the leader of genius must have the ability to make different opponents appear as if they belong to one category. - Adolf Hitler

I shuddered at this
