This was an insightful look into the creation of Frankenstein!

I read Frankenstein earlier this year and loved it, so naturally I had to read this book. I was impressed that Mary Shelley wrote a masterpiece at age 19.

The best part of the book was the depiction of female rage. Mary‘s rage starts off quietly and then slowly simmers into an inferno.

IriDas I hadn‘t heard of this book. I studied Frankenstein multiple times in uni (English major) and was never satisfied with my professor‘s portrayal of Mary. They always made her sound like some frivolous little girl and brushed me off when I questioned her relationship with Percy (I‘m not a fan lol). 2w
oddandbookish @IriDas She‘s definitely not a frivolous little girl in this one! Her relationship with Percy is portrayed as incredibly complicated. 2w

"For all his talk about free love, he has never truly wanted her to be with another man. He offered her freedom because he never believed her capable of taking it."

Oh. Hell. Yeah.

Really enjoying this!

“Author‘s grandmother inspires 1920s-era historical fiction novel on Chautauqua circuit.

After finding a box of mementos and learning that her grandmother, Verna Hintz Kurtz, traveled with the Versatile Quintet in the Swarthmore Chautauqua circuit as a trombone player and performance whistler in the 1920s, Melora Fern was inspired to write her debut novel, “Whistling Women and Crowing Hens.”

Peggy gets a job working for the Ministry of Information. whilst there, she meets Marigikd. Together they use their writing and photographic skills to produce books about the experiences of war by ordinary people. Peggy is holding on to hope that her twin brother returns home safely from war whilst Marigold is living each day like it‘s her last. Until tragedy strikes.
A lovely set of characters with warmth and compassionate. A powerful story. 4🌟

Watching this with MisterInBlue tonight. I watched this obsessively when it came out. I was 12. It's not a surprise I turned out the way I did. 😅

The haiku is comprised of lines from different songs in the movie.

ChaoticMissAdventures I was also 12 and obsessed when this came out!! I wanted to marry Spot Conlon, and was also obsessed with running away to Santa Fe (which was real weird because I was not an outdorsie horse girl 🤣) 4mo
