Getting ready to start this one for my #feministbookclub. I‘m interested to see if it‘s for me. Opinions seem pretty divided between love and meh. @Mitch you‘ve inspired my Bircher breakfast choice (though this was store bought not homemade). #weekendreads

Mitch Oh, looks lovely 😊 5y

Pickpick

My favorite thing about this book is the title. I read this for Book Riot's online book club. I enjoyed the collection in general. Naturally I liked the essays about celebs I am already fond of (Serena Williams, Jennifer Weiner) more than those about people I like less. I had the feeling in some cases that the author just really wanted to write about a certain star, so she made them fit. Overall, it made me wish our society was less judgmental.

GhostGrrl I read it for @bookriot #feministbookclub too! Fascinating read! My favorite chapter turned out to be Too Loud: Jennifer Weiner how about you? 7y
MallenNC @GhostGrrl I really liked the book club. I'd never done anything like that before. I liked the Jennifer Weiner chapter a lot too. Also Serena Williams. The ones about Kim Kardashian and Nikki Minaj gave me a lot to think about too, even if I'm not, sure I agree with the author completely on them. 7y

“The capacity to listen and contemplate has rendered her a formidable legislator and statesman — yet, crucially, done little to change her aptitude at campaigning.”

GhostGrrl This chapter was fascinating! I never looked too hard at my attitude towards HRC until now. I‘m ashamed that I hear an echo of the issues this chapter raised, particularly regarding charisma, in them. In focusing on what she did not achieve we are forgetting the many amazing things that she did accomplish including almost becoming POTUS. 7y

GhostGrrl Thanks! @whatshesreadingnow and @KathyWheeler I “found” it through @bookriot #feministbookclub It‘s been an interesting read thus far. Still have a few more chapters to go! 7y

Mehso-so

My irl #feministbookclub pick. A slow read that I skimmed in parts. Section 3 where Renee struggles between companionship, love, and her career in vaudeville and chance to travel was the most interesting section. Also fun to read about the vaudeville life and her partnership with Brague who acts in the show with her. Note: most of my book club liked this more than me. Honestly I think I‘ve been too tired to focus on more difficult reads.

Started this yesterday. Have you read it? Do you think we have gender equality already? If not what do you think it would look like? That is what Catherine Mayer attempts to answer in this book, charging my kindle up ATM, can't wait to see what she conjures up.

quietlycuriouskate Do you know this one? They have gender equality in their society because they're only gendered for a few days each month and each time might be either male or female. 7y
charissharpe I've heard of Le Guin but I haven't read this, no, thank you 😊 added it to my reading pile @River_Voice 7y

Started this today, I think it's going to be a chapter at a time kind of read. Straight in at the deep end with chapter one being on #FGM. One to read bit by bit and process. When the subject matter is so outside the realms of anything you personally have encountered it is worth thinking about before reading more. Alternating with some fiction, The Essex Serpent.

About to start on this month's book for my feminist book club. Going in a total blank slate having not even read a blurb yet. Hoping it is a quick read - we meet on Tuesday! #feministbookclub
