Yesterday I confirmed I like Chinua Achebe‘s nonfiction far more than his fiction, alas, but I‘m as interested in Colette‘s novels as I am in her stories. THE VAGABOND is hardcore immersive. I feel like I‘m right there with Renée in her music hall life. Casey‘s gonna help me get through another big chunk before bed.

Today I took a long and excellent bike ride along the Seine, my favourite Manitoba river. (It‘s much smaller than the one in France.) I found tons of Little Free Libraries along my route, one of which coughed up a Penguin Colette. I‘m an eternal sucker for Penguins and I‘ve been meaning to try Colette‘s novels for years. (I‘ve read all her short fiction, I‘m pretty sure.)

Spending Friday night with the amazingly creative, brave and inspiring spirit that was Sidonie- Gabrielle Colette.

JamieArc I really enjoyed this film! Have yet to read any of hers yet, but have come across some treasures lately so that‘s one of my goals this year. 6y

Ireland is in the midst of the most snow we've had since "The Big Snow" of 2010. The city has shut down, everyone has been sent home from work, no public transport is in operation and there's a national bread shortage. So naturally I'm holed up The Vagabond and living my best life ????

Tamra It‘s like a national holiday! 👏🏾 Lucky you! 7y
Leannr @Tamra everyone's delighted 😂🙌🏻 fingers crossed it lasts for a few days! 7y
Libby1 Are they calling it The Beast from the East down there? 7y

My irl #feministbookclub pick. A slow read that I skimmed in parts. Section 3 where Renee struggles between companionship, love, and her career in vaudeville and chance to travel was the most interesting section. Also fun to read about the vaudeville life and her partnership with Brague who acts in the show with her. Note: most of my book club liked this more than me. Honestly I think I‘ve been too tired to focus on more difficult reads.

Pickpick

Love the imagery in this book, and the overall story. The last portion devolves into letters she was writing, which I wasn't overly fond of. Aside from that, I really enjoyed this story.
