Hello Billionaire | Kelsie Hoss

This is my favourite book of the series, maybe because it‘s the first I ever read. The heartbreak was easier to get through this time around because I knew the ending and that it wouldn‘t last. It feels so much longer and so much harder the first time through. I loved this book even more the second time through. I‘m so excited to start Liv‘s book.

Well, this is disappointing: a book I loved listening to while painting my house but found out some problematic info about the author after finishing it. North Korean defector Yeonmi Park has been accused of fabricating some of this story. I‘m not sure what to believe but this is a book for my deep dive into North Korea. I‘m looking forward to Nothing to Envy next from @Singout ‘s #alspine list. A brutal story of survival. Conflicted pick

JenniferEgnor One of the books I checked out today is a memoir of life under dictatorship in Korea and escape. 2mo
Singout Wow. That‘s a really good example of what a complete split there is between political analyses. 2mo

Chelsea.Poole @JenniferEgnor what is the title? Have you seen the documentary Beyond Utopia? 2mo
Chelsea.Poole @Singout have you read this one? Seeing Nothing to Envy on your list encouraged me to watch Beyond Utopia while waiting to start it in January. I‘ve also read that North Korean troops are being sent to the front lines in Russia, recently, which was news to me. Just feels like I should be paying more attention than I have been. So I thank you for the encouragement. 2mo
Singout No, I haven‘t. And yes, North Korean involvement ups the ante even more. It‘s very frightening. 2mo
JenniferEgnor @Chelsea.Poole Escape from Camp 14. Have not seen that. 2mo
Chelsea.Poole @JenReadsAlot @JenniferEgnor oh are you two doing a buddy read of this? I‘ll add it to my list. There‘s quite a few. 2mo
JenReadsAlot We are not! @JenniferEgnor I would be curious what you think! 2mo
Kristy_K This is disappointing. I read this years ago and remember enjoying it. Thanks for the article link! (edited) 2mo
JenniferEgnor @Chelsea.Poole @JenReadsAlot once I get through my current stack…! 2mo
youneverarrived Thanks for the article link - I read it a few years ago and thought it was brilliant. Nothing to Envy was one of my 2024 favourites. 2mo

4⭐️ I quite enjoyed this #bookclub read. For me, it went by quickly, as the chapters were fairly short and straightforward. What I enjoyed the most was the description of life inside of North Korea, due to closed off nature of the country. It was a very intriguing read. #2024 #nonfiction #northkorea #memoir

The five stars are not so much for the writing, as for the author‘s courage to speak out, and expose the grim realities of a world that, for many of us, it‘s too far away.

She has seen hell, and yet, it didn‘t kill her kindness, her compassion, and her loving spirit. And for that, she deserves respect.
