I am terring into #dune on this beautiful Sunday morning. And in constant awe of my flowering Moonflowers! Their blooms open at sunset and go to sleep in mid morning. Average blooms last about 48 hours. At the end of the season I gather seeds, so if any of you littens are ever interested just send me a note 😉
Moonflowers smell so good, similar to a mellow Gardena. 🥰
What are you reading?

CoffeeNBooks I would love to add some Moonflowers to my garden!! 4y
Gaylagal2 @CoffeeNBooks I will add your name. One moonflower plant can grow up to 17 feet. I can personally testify to that....LOL 🤓 4y
CoffeeNBooks @Gaylagal2 Wow- that's awesome! Thanks so much! 4y

I have been following the process of the new Dune movie for awhile. I'm also re-reading Dune....fantastic book that I read in my teen years in the late 70s. It's still so good 🤙
Is anybody else (besides me) losing there shit over the Dune trailer?? It's fantastic!! Can't wait for its December release 😬
#dune #dune2020

Heideschrampf Yes! I have also befan rereading it before the move comes out. Trying not to get my my hopes up too much, since i still doubt that book can ever be adequately adapted 4y
Librarianaut Watched it a little while ago- holy sheeeeetss 4y
TheBookStacker I need to read it ASAP. Maybe when I finish my current sci-fi read. 4y

Gaylagal2 @Heideschrampf I'm very optimistic about this film. The director and cast is spot on for Dune. Even diehard Dune enthusiasts (Steven Colbert for one) have said this is perfection! The one concern I have is there is no rating yet 😬 Im thinking it must be R. This will be one of the top films of the decade. 😁 4y
Gaylagal2 @Librarianaut I know right? So awesome! 4y
Gaylagal2 @TheBookStacker You will live it🤙 4y
Suet624 Me, me, me, me, me! I read this in the 70‘s too. So many passages are still so bright and clear in my mind. This movie is going to be great! 4y
Gaylagal2 @Suet624 I know, I know!! This book was my go to as a teenager and I would just get lost in it. I'd forget the bullies, being raised by a single mom (she was amazing!❤️👊) and all the other teenage bullshit. This movie will be one for the books and this decade..my personal prediction 😉🤓 (edited) 4y
Suet624 Same here! Just get lost. I can still feel the thrill I felt the first time they rode the sand worm. 4y
Suet624 And the actors in this movie are ✊👍 4y

#ThoughtfulThursday @MoonWitch94

- Dr. Pepper! (but in all honesty something is wrong with me and I think coffee tastes and smells like skunk)

- the soundtrack to these insane times has been John Darnielle‘s Songs for Pierre Chuvin which he recorded and released while self-isolating

- “‘The Fremen have a saying they credit to Shai-hulud, Old Father Eternity,‘ he said. ‘They say: “Be prepared to appreciate what you meet.”‘” #Dune2020

Amiable I hate coffee, too. The taste and the smell. Nothing wrong with you! 5y
vivastory You hate coffee? Prepare to be unfriended! 😆 5y

Best part of having a dad who reads the same kinda of books as you (well for the most part) is I can always go raid his bookshelf. These books appear on multiple lists of the best fantasy books/series of all time so I figured it was time I should give them a go. My goal is to at least have read 1 of these before the end of summer but I guess we shall see.

TobeyTheScavengerMonk I just finished Dune for the first time! #Dune2020 5y
jackilynn @TobeyTheScavengerMonk Dune might be one the next books I pick up. It was going to be Robin Hobb but I recently realized I grabbed the wrong book. I was supposed to grab the Assassins Apprentice. Oops lol 5y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk I just started my first Robin Hobb book yesterday! 5y

#WondrousWednesday @Eggs

1. Fun and uplifting pic from my gallery: Check! My elder kiddo finished up Kindergarten from home this year, and between what he read and what I read to him we made it through 2,000+ books (and chapters, 1 chapter = 1 book in K-2) over the course of the school year. This pic went on his school‘s social media.

2. Book character for a day: A Baggins on a really chill day in the Shire.

3. Best of May: Dune!!! #Dune2020

Pickpick

Happy Sunday! I just finished Dune and I definitely enjoyed it even more this time because I read it at slower pace. There are so many great passages about politics, religion and human nature that are still relevant today. Thank you to everyone that joined in for the #DUNE2020 buddy read. What did everyone think of the book? Did you have a favorite part or character? Is anyone else planning to watch the Dune 1984 film?

DGRachel I loved it and am so glad I joined in on this buddy read! I loved the ending and it was fun for me to see the influences of Dune in a couple of my favorite contemporary Sci-Fi and Fantasy series, as the authors have both mentioned Dune as being favorites of theirs. I probably won‘t watch the film, just because I want to keep my images attached to it. 5y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk @DGRachel Yes! It has clearly been so influential on the genre! The time jumps really surprised me as did the super-omniscient narrator. Before reading, I thought of this as Paul‘s story but it‘s so much bigger than that! I thought Herbert had some insightful things to say about religion too, especially in the appendices. 5y

CrowCAH This was a great read! The philosophy is a bit beyond my understanding, but I enjoyed all the action. I won‘t be watching the 80s movie. I‘m saving my visions for the new movie coming out this year. 5y
Soubhiville I didn‘t get through the book. I‘ll try again at another time. I‘ve seen the 80‘s movie and I‘ll definitely watch the new one when it‘s released. 5y
BookwormAHN I loved the book and I ordered the movie and will watch it just as soon as it arrives. 5y
BookwormM I enjoyed the book favourite aspect the political machinations and levels of planning around water 5y
readordierachel I really enjoyed it! I'm so impressed with the scope and detail of the world. I became much more invested than I anticipated. And I appreciated how interes. I'm looking forward to rewatching the '84 movie and the new one. 5y
readordierachel *And I appreciated how interesting and developed his female characters were 5y

Mehso-so

Finished the #Dune2020 read along. First, I can see how Dune is considered a SciFi classic and why it is loved. I struggled to finish it because the writing style is just so dense. There were many chapters where I was incredibly bored. I didn‘t completely dislike it; I liked the sand worm scenes, the villains and the finale. However, I didn‘t connect to any of the characters, especially Paul, who I feel is way too over powered and “god-like”.

Why, oh why, did I wait so long to read this? This is an exquisite piece of epic science fiction. The world building is subtle, but brilliant and immersive. There‘s no clear good versus evil, and that ambiguity creates tension that ensnares the reader and holds them throughout the novel. It‘s well-paced and full of rich characters, political intrigue, superstition, warfare, hardship, and hope. I loved it. #DUNE2020

ItsAnotherJen This has been on my tbr list for a long time! 5y
riversong153 This is a chunkster right? How many pages? How long did it take you to read it? 5y
DGRachel @riversong153 This edition is 688 pages. It took me all month, but this was a slow month for me overall...my brain was elsewhere and I had trouble reading anything for long stretches. According to my tracker app, it took just under 15 hours. 5y
Palimpsest Great review 5y
