Figured I needed a physical copy for the colloquium I'll be end speaker for next month. Important reflections and vital discussion. #decolonize

Nute How did your speaking event turn out? 3y
tournevis @Nute Marvelously! I had not been to a such a thought-provoking and game-changing colloquium in my 22-year academic career. Amazing! 3y

Nute That‘s is awesome! If if can be condensed into a Litsy post, what was the most thought-provoking concept and game-changing approach to academia or life? 3y
tournevis @Nute Québec national history is colonial, which duh, but that goes almost entirely unoticed, even by academic historians. Discussions revolved around finding words in French that can translate concepts in English such as Settler colinialism, so that Québec history can be decolonized. And how these can be applied to Québec historical research today. 3y

Wenjack | Joseph Boyden
Pickpick

In tears over this gorgeous little heartbreaker of a book even though I know the ending before I ever even heard of this book. Joseph Boyden has written such a tender, beautiful, haunting book about Chanie Wenjack, the young Ojibwe boy who ran away from residential school and died trying to walk home. I can't recommend this enough! Kent Monkman's illustrations are perfect! #Nativereads #decolonize

LeahBergen I need to pick up a copy of this soon! 😍 8y
JanuarieTimewalker13 Heartbreaking. I took a Native American history class about 5 years ago, and I learned about this. 8y
Tsubame This is the kind of book I'd like to read, but don't because I know it would tear me apart 😥 8y

Joseph Boyden and Kent Monkman, two highly talented Native artists, team up for this little powerhouse of a book about Chanie Wenjack, the Ojibwe boy who escaped from a Residential school and died trying to walk home. One terribly tragic story in the long and ongoing history of colonialism and genocide. #Nativebooks #decolonize #noDAPL

Today I am revisiting this powerful book written by my dear friend Leanne Simpson. She is of Michi Saagiig Nishnaabeg ancestry and a member of Alderville First Nation. She is a fierce activist and a beautiful writer. #decolonize #nodapl #nativebooks #queerbooks

Eyelit My book club is reading this one this month (and I‘ve requested my library purchase her other books) 😃 7y
