The Seed Keeper | Diane Wilson

“Thakóža, you‘ve had no one to teach you, not even how to be a part of a family or a community. You know what the grandmothers went through to save the seeds. That‘s how tough you have to be as an Indian woman. And as a seed keeper.” (Wilma Many Horses)
Loved this book. Can‘t recommend enough ♥️♥️Think I‘ll do #covercrush for #makeyourownprompt #booked2022

CBee @ncsufoxes me too! I took a picture of some of the info at the end, since it‘s a library book. Thanks for the recommendation to read it! 4y

Adding to my TBR today. I loved Race to the Sun and enjoyed Trail of Lightning.

Looking it up today, I found that I live on the traditional territory of the Eastern Shoshone and Goshute peoples. https://native-land.ca/

Excellent read. Not easy, she doesn‘t mince words. If you like Roxanne Gay, read this. If you don‘t read it anyways. #IndigenousPeoplesDay #Scarathalon2020

Leaving off my team name as it seems insensitive in relation to this book, but the points are: book finished + post = 6 points

@Clwojick

Clwojick Woohoo! 🎉🎃 go team!!! (edited) 5y
Clwojick I guess I didn‘t read the whole post earlier 😅 Went back to remove the team name in my comment. Sorry 😞 5y
TheBookDream @Clwojick oh np! I may be overly cautious here but the team name is definitely unfortunate in relation to this book. 5y

Today, Indigenous leaders of the Yakama and Lummi Nations called for the removal of 3 large dams on the Columbia River to restore salmon and traditional fishing grounds. The press conference occurred here, where the great Celilo Falls existed before Dalles Dam was built in 1967. #indigenouspeoplesday

BookNAround My geology professor in college said that dam(n), no matter which sense you used the word in, was always a four letter word. 6y
SamAnne @BookNAround LOL. So true. While they have brought benefits, the consequences have been great. I‘m glad to see them being questioned. 6y
Freespirit Great news...we build dams without thinking of the consequences. We have terrible water problems in my country at the moment. I think water security will be a huge issue in the future. 6y

How appropriate that I finished this excellent fresh new dystopian tale about a Native American monster hunter on #indigenouspeoplesday! I‘ll definitely want to read the rest of the series, Maggie Hoskie is a kickass complex female protagonist and the world Rebecca Roanhorse has built is really well done.
