#constanvigilance
blurb
TheNextBook
March: Book Two | Andrew Aydin, John Lewis
post image

I just wanted to point out that the woman screaming "Get the niggers! Get the niggers!" looks to be holding a baby... They drew a picture of a woman, at a riot, with a child, screaming to have people mauled and possibly killed because she didn't want to integrate. America in the 1960s. #stillrelevant #wrongsideofhistory #constanvigilance

8little_paws This is so messed up it is sickening 8y
Sace It feels odd to "like" this. I agree with @8little_paws that it is messed up to the point of sickening. Even more sickening is the thought that this battle still needs to be fought. It's very frustrating. 8y
RobinW Good eyes....I didn't even catch that she was holding a baby. Horrible just horrible. 8y

ReadingEnvy I think about this sometimes, how the babies from this era are the people with children now. How much have they grown? How much have they perpetuated? 8y
moranadatter Wow! I definitely missed that. Thanks for pointing it out! 8y
ReadingSusan 😡😡😡 Infuriating. 8y
TheNextBook @8little_paws @Sace I have no words. The kid had no words. And she looks so damn angry like seriously angry and to bring a baby! 8y
TheNextBook @RobinW @kmdartist I saw the baby as soon as I looked at her. I just couldn't imagine hiw hateful you would have to be to hold a new life in your arms and yet want someone else's death! 8y
TheNextBook @ReadingEnvy I'm sure many have grown and learned but there are many who still feel this way and look at anyone who isn't white and hates them simply for not being white. Politics in the US right now are a prime example. 8y
moranadatter @TheNextBook Ugh. Yes. Or to turn a firehose on children. 8y
TheNextBook @ReadingSusan yep. That one frame has so much power. 8y
ReadingEnvy @TheNextBook yup and I live in a prime area for this. It has been eye opening and sad. These are such important stories. 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Those babies are the same age as I am, which makes me think and feel so sad. I can't imagine being that mother ... 8y
