I liked but didn't love this one. Set in a small village in the Highlands, Ruby moves into a cottage for a year to figure out her future and work on a cookbook. She ends up getting involved in the town tourism politics and finding community with the townspeople. Her relationship with Brochan was a bit frustrating to me, fighting over secrets held back in a way I felt was unnecessary. Overall I loved the Scotland setting & found family aspects most

I‘m posting one book a day from my massive collection. No description, no reason for why I want to read it (some I‘ve had so long I don‘t even remember why!). Feel free to join in!

Olivia Dade hits every time! How does she keep writing these sweet MCs and relatable FMCs?

Oomph. I usually really like Krentz‘s stories - a good mix of suspense and romance with sometimes a dash of magical realism - but this one, nope. Originally published in #1983 , let‘s just say that it would not be published now (thoughts in the comments - it‘s a massive TW):

I tried to listen to the whole story, but I just could not. Take my advice - don‘t bother with this one.

Librarybelle Within the first hour of listening, the lead MC claimed the female MC repeatedly begged him to rape her. Yes, he literally says he asked her to rape him. Yet, somehow, she decides a few days later to sleep with him. I don‘t get it. Even more, the next morning, he claims she is his now, he owns her. That was the last straw. Sorry JAK…this is my least favorite of yours. 3w
Librarybelle For sure, @dabbe ! 3w

Librarybelle @CaramelLunacy I kept hoping it would get better, or at least I had misheard. Nope! 2w

My indie bookstore is starting a romance book club and this is the May and first pick. I‘ve read an Olivia Dade book before and enjoyed it but this one was LONG! It‘s 400 pages and pretty heavy, so the romance doesn‘t start until really a little more than halfway through. I get it as part of the story, the MC was dealing with a lot, but still.

But I did enjoy this one and am interested in reading the other books in this world once written.

For the most part, this book is kinda boring and annoying. But, UGH!, this line got me. This is literally all I‘m looking for. 😭
