The majority of the short stories are great. Both horror and noir type of stories.

#distraction Beautiful illustrations! I needed this reread of a tale of an orphan getting saved by forest cats !🐈
Charles de Lint is the author I most associate with “urban fantasy“, though the term has evolved since he published his first books. This collection of stories from his Newford series delves into the lives of city dwellers, including the artists, the homeless, and the marginalized. I love de Lint's beautiful writing and the mix of fantasy, folklore and horror.
Much of my #Fridaythe13th readathon, as well as the final day of the #pumpkinspicereadathon, was spent finishing this supernatural thriller from one of my favourite authors.
Charles de Lint is known mostly for his beautifully written urban fantasy, but he does horror really well too (some under pseudonym Samuel M. Key).

It‘s been a while since I‘ve read a Charles de Lint book and while this had all the magic I remember, I just didn‘t like it that much. It felt a bit shallow and slow, and there were POV issues. The defeat of the main bad guy didn‘t make any sense to me—I kept waiting for it to be explained but it wasn‘t.
Finished this after a morning of berry picking!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Loved my first step into Newford! I‘m looking forward to reading more about this magical and fantastical town! My favorite story in this collection was The Big Sky. Definitely recommend for those who haven‘t read the excellent writing of de Lint.
