I was attracted to this by the cover (#booksonthecover #52books23) and it didn‘t let me down.

It‘s definitely more ‘cute‘ Japanese than ‘slightly weird‘ Japanese and I preferred the first half, which was set more in the bookshop. The second part introduced a new character that took the storyline in a different direction.

Great if you want recommendations of Japanese literature to read. (Looking at you! 👀 @BarbaraBB )

I love snarky main characters, and Bea definitely fits that profile! When Bea and her neighbors are forced by the local judge to join a book club at the library, they have no idea they will come together to solve a murder. A crazy snowstorm and a bunch of suspects - it kind of goes along with their book club book Murder on the Orient Express. I‘ll definitely continue this series - fun read, and I‘d love to see how the ladies solve their next case.

“God, I don't love much but I love words.”

A book for those of us that sometimes love books & bookstores more than we love anything else. This is the story of the oft-cantankerous young Loveday Cardew. She has been through some crap in her lifetime. And it has made her the most untrusting soul. But she‘ll soon realize how much she still has going for her. This one was a little heavier than Ailsa Rae, ⬇️⬇️

LaraReads and I don‘t know if I liked it quite as much, but it was still endearing. The characters are all so enjoyable. Plus, there were enough books & book lines mentioned to make all of our bookworm hearts swell. 2y
squirrelbrain I think that why I loved this one so much; all of the bookish stuff! 2y
Librarybelle I‘m so surprised I have yet to read this! Stacking! 2y

⭐️⭐️⭐️ A sequel that can also stand alone, and per reviews, book one is markedly better. An incredibly slow start and annoying audio narration - a caricature of a southern accent - just didn‘t hook me. The “Blue People of Kentucky” pieces were fascinating, though, and over time, the packhorse librarian story grew on me, but if not for #bookclub, I would‘ve bailed early on.

Scochrane26 I actually liked this one as much if not better than the first. I read instead of listened though. 2y
britt_brooke @Scochrane26 I definitely think it would‘ve been better in print. 2y

I‘m really enjoying this #HF based on JPMorgan‘s personal librarian, Belle Costa de Green, a black woman passing for white in the early years of the twentieth century. Robin Miles is one of my favorite narrators. #52Books #BooksOnTheCover
