An extremely tentative #screamathon stack due to the fact that a bunch of other new book holds just came in at the library and we don‘t have much time together. #bookanxiety

Just finished the first chapter of The Happy Years section. I'm being lured into a false sense of security aren't I? I feel like I am... #bookanxiety

Lonesome Dove: A Novel | Larry McMurtry

Pickpick

If you‘ve read this book, then you already know. If you haven‘t, then you should! This was a ten week readalong that felt short. I never loathed picking it back up each week—in fact it was nice to get back to characters I had grown to love. And my copy sure looks like it made the 3,000+ mile trek with the cowhands. 😂 I look forward to getting back into this series in 2018. Are the other books as good? #lonedove

TheWordJar That looks like a well-loved book! 7y
Dolly I haven't read any others but I loved this book. I felt like I was on this trek with these people living beside them. Lonesome Dove was highly recommended by others so I picked it up trusting their judgement NOT because I wanted to read a western. It was the writing that drew me in. I'd be willing to try another of this author's books. ❤️ 7y
Reviewsbylola That‘s exactly why I read it @dolly. I have no interest in westerns and I read it solely based on the rave reviews on Litsy and everyone talking about how much they loved it. 7y

Tamra It‘s such a compelling movie & Book! 7y
LeahBergen I‘ve read them all and don‘t think any of them QUITE match the magic of this one ... but it is just so good to jump back into that world again, you know? 7y
BookMaven9 This has been one of my top 5 favorite reads in the world ❤️how can one not love these characters 7y
emilyhaldi 🙌🏻 also, what the hell did you do to that book?! 7y
Kaye The only other one I‘ve read was the last one. I agree that it wasn‘t as good as LD. It was good, but not quite to the level. I‘ve tried starting the other 2 a few times and couldn‘t get into them. Maybe I‘ll try them again someday. 7y
Cinfhen I‘m sorry I bailed early on, glad you all loved the book! How does it compare to GWTW?!? 7y
Reviewsbylola It‘s similar in the sense that it‘s an epic book but the time span is much shorter and it‘s not really a love story, more a story about a deep friendship. But I felt very strongly about the characters, much in the same way I do for GWTW. @Cinfhen 7y
Reviewsbylola I feel like I‘m not even interested in the last book because Gus is dead. 😭😭 @kaye 7y
Reviewsbylola I‘m rough with books. 😬 @emilyhaldi 7y
Reviewsbylola Definitely. I need my Gus fix so next year I plan to start with the first chronological book. @LeahBergen 7y
Kaye I agree. He was my favorite. Any book without him is missing a major chunk, like if you didn‘t have a leg anymore. You‘d notice it missing. At least the final book kinda wraps everything up in a way and you see how Call kinda rambles around without Gus. It‘s sad but it sorta wraps things up in a way. @reviewsbylola 7y
Kaye @Cinfhen if you are asking how LD compares to GWTW. I say LD is much better. I coulda done without all the sappy parts in GWTW and had more battle scenes. Just my opinion. I don‘t do sappy. Bring out the cannons and the campfires. Let‘s get ready for the next battle. Eat your hardtack. ⚔️ 7y
Cinfhen So how do you rank GWTW and #lonedove?!? Do you love one more?? Or just differently??? I'm VERY nervous for CoD😬😬😬 7y
Cinfhen I felt like I slogged my way through GWTW but I ended up loving the last 200 pages @Kaye but for some reason I was just not connecting with #lonedove at all from the start...and the endless amount of pages was giving me #bookanxiety #pagecountphobia 7y
Reviewsbylola I totally get it, although I think you would have ended up loving LD. @Cinfhen It was a slow start for me and I didn‘t connect until around chapter 8. It was the chapter where Gus talked about the sign he made. Did you make it that far? CoD has the most annoying character known to man but he is hilarious. It seems to be a very polarizing book. You either love it or hate it so we‘ll see. 7y
Reviewsbylola I‘ve always counted GWTW and CoD as my two favorite books but I definitely think LD ranks among them now. @Cinfhen 7y
Kaye @Cinfhen. Well, every book isn‘t to everyone‘s taste. It‘s ok if you don‘t like a book that lots of others loved. It just means maybe that book wasn‘t meant for you. Dont force yourself to read something that just isn‘t clicking. I thought GWTW was a good book with decent writing but I thought all the romance was too sissified. I think that ruined the rest of the story , where most others would think that‘s what made it so good. (edited) 7y
Cinfhen Thanks @Kaye & Steph... I know for me, I need to be grabbed right from the beginning to really want to continue on with a book... I don't think I got to that part in #lonedove... I'm willing to give CoD a try because I do think the excitement of reading along side friends adds to the enjoyment of a book you might not have read on your own!! We shall see... 7y
RadicalReader @Reviewsbylola the book is undoubtedly well loved and much appreciated 7y
Vblancsbooks I just got this at a used book store! 7y
Mdargusch I‘m nervous for you @Cinfhen and the CoD readalong. 😬 and I agree @BookLover - this is in my top 10 favorite books! 7y

Fellow littens! I need you all to give me a good kick to get this book finished 😂. I've stalled on chapter 15 despite the fact I love this book and it's such an easy read. Granted this is the furthest I've ever gotten before because I have shamefully not finished this book twice previously! Encouragement is very welcome! #lotrchapteraday #morelikechapteraweek #foliofreaks #foliosociety

monkeygirlsmama You can do it! You're almost there now. 🤗 7y
laurieluna @monkeygirlsmama thank you! I know I am. Maybe it's my subconcious not letting me finish it because I don't want it to end...and knowing that after this I have to tackle LOTR....😱 those books scare me! 7y

📚📚😒The struggle is real over here.. my TBR pile is out of control, I've got about 10 library books checked out, 3 book club books to read, one buddy read where my poor buddy has left me behind, and a library book sale to go to tomorrow. Work gets in the way of my book life. Is there such a thing as book life work life balance? 🤓
