I had no idea until I had this in my hot little hands that it was short stories. I always assumed it was essays. Side note that the ebook has additional stories in it that do not appear in the original print version. I love this author. This didn't disappoint.

Sifting through fact & fiction, McLaird puts together a well researched biography that avoids both sanitizing & demonizing the figure of Calamity Jane.
This was fascinating! I only knew the barest folk stories about her, & it was so interesting to see other pieces of her story, like her alcoholism, her acting as a nurse in her communities, & the fact that she had children. A little dry, but well balanced, w/ lots of amazing photos! 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑

This is a typical Hero's journey with all the usual tropes you'd expect. Nothing earth shattering or different. Still I enjoyed visiting the world of Alagaësia and getting to meet all the characters. I'm intrigued to see where the series will take me.
I have my suspicions and would like to confirm them.

4. Hell Followed With Us and 10. Recursion are my picks this month.
This was an enchanting and unique fantasy read!
The story is described by many as Beauty and the Beast meets Howl‘s Moving Castle. I haven‘t seen Howl‘s Moving Castle so I can't comment on that. However, it does have major Beauty and the Beast vibes. As a Beauty and the Beast retelling, the story felt so refreshing because of the Polish folklore.

I did do a #bookspin list at the beginning of the month and never posted it. I saw that Summerwater (an old fave from my #roll100) and Shanghailanders (a new find at BN) were chosen.
Things are still crazy here. We‘ve gotten Dad mostly settled in the nursing home (after his second major stroke), and Mom or I is visiting every day. Today, I got clearance to bring Molly, and she came with me. It‘s just still a lot logistically and emotionally. ⬇️
Such a beautiful book ❤️ TJ Klune is all heart. It was such a joy to spend time again with the family on Marysus Island. Talia and Lucy, Sal and Chauncey...I adore them ❤️ This book is a giant hug and reminder of the beautiful people in this world. This was my February #Bookspin @TheAromaofBooks
Started off slow for me, but ended up really enjoying it. My #bookspin for the month @TheAromaofBooks
