It was a black day and a bloody day in July 1918 when the Bolsheviks murdered the Romanovs who they held imprisoned in Ekaterinburg. Just been listening to a podcast about this on BBC History - and I‘ve read the tagged book which was fascinating.

peaKnit I so curious about this family as I am reading a fictional perspective by John Boyne 6y
Butterfinger I just finished The House of Special Purpose. This looks like a good one to read next. 6y
Centique @peaknit @Butterfinger ooh that sounds good, I‘m stacking that one too now! 6y

Day 18 - #blackdayinjuly #timbittunes

Black day in July
Motor city madness has touched the countryside
And through the smoke and cinders
You can hear it far and wide
The doors are quickly bolted
And the children locked inside
Black day in July
Black day in July
And the soul of Motor City is bared across the land
As the book of law and order is taken in the hands
Of the sons of the fathers who were carried to this land
Black day in July

Suzze I lived in Detroit then. My brothers were a Detroit cops. It was a crazy tine for sure. 6y

#BlackDayInJuly times three, this is one of the myriad of books published about the battle that arguably turned the ties of the American Civil War. I‘ve yet to read Sears‘ book, but can say that I‘ve had to replace copies of it over the years in my library system (which is in Gettysburg, hence the extreme popularity). #TimbitTunes

Cinfhen Definitely local history 6y
CoverToCoverGirl It would be amazing to live and work in area so steeped in such history. The Civil War has always fascinated me for so many reasons. I have been there and it really is hallowed ground. You can feel what occurred there. It‘s like stepping back in time. 6y
Librarybelle @CoverToCoverGirl It is amazing! There are times I stop on the sidewalk and take a deep breath and think about everything that happened. 6y

MicheleinPhilly I loved it! 6y
SamAnne I was mixed on this. I grew up in a rural community where this story could have taken place. And lived in north Idaho not far where the stories and incidents he is basing the story on took place. When I know the back story it often give me a more critical eye which is unfair. But if it seems melodramatic, it isn‘t. Sometimes when I tell stories from my childhood community it just sounds over the top. But it was real. 6y
