Me: something bad happened!

Husband: in real life or in the book?

Me: in real life! Why are you acting like this isn‘t real? You‘re acting like these people‘s lives don‘t matter! #alllivesmatter

Husband: oh boy here we go.

Here is question 3 for #TheHateUGive for this month's #LitsyBuddyRead. @Jess7 posted questions 2 and 4 so don't forget to go to her page to join in on those questions!

Hope you all had a great weekend!

Jess7 Personally I think people are missing the point of #blacklivesmatter when they say #alllivesmatter. Of course all lives matter, but the point of this hashtag is to draw attention to an important racial issue that needs to be addressed and by saying all lives matter I think it takes away from the point 7y
Jess7 As far as the interview of 115‘s father. I believe that the father wants to believe the best in his son, so I don‘t think he is necessarily lying, but that doesn‘t make what he is saying true. That being said, we are reading everything from the perspective of Starr. 7y
MinDea @Jess7 I agree, this book is from the pov of Starr. How would it be if we read it from the pov of Bryan? Would we feel differently? I think the father was telling the truth from his poc, but maybe not the truth of the events of that night... 7y

Jess7 I do not think anything the father said justifies the shooting. I think he shot first and asked questions second. (Assuming Starr is a reliable witness, and at this point she seems to be). (edited) 7y
MinDea I agree, I think the point that #BlackLivesMatter is being dismissed and brushed off when replied with #AllLivesMatter. That people aren't understanding the real issues here. 7y
Suelizbeth @Jess7 @MinDea I totally agree with both of you. Those who state that #AllLivesMatter refuse to acknowledge that #BlackLivesMatter is the more relevant POV, and refuse to see the issues from the #BlackLivesMatter POV. If we refuse to allow the inflammatory statements from these incidents to inform our reactions, and see each other as more alike than different, it would go a long way toward making sure these incidents don‘t occur at all. 7y
mrp27 100% agree with @Jess7 all lives matter is true, but not the point of black lives matter. I also agree that I don't think 115 father is lying but merely saying things from his perspective. Which brings me to the point of why can't he or others see things from the perspective of the dead? Why is that so hard? 7y
ptkpepe98 But isn't this exactly the problem we are facing in society now? Instead of acknowledging, we are, in effect, saying, me, too. But until and unless you are the person who has been injured by the those who should protect you, like Starr, Kalief, it is simply asking for recognition of inequity. Sadly, 115 was scared, and bought into an expectation. It led to a series of horrible reactions. If he had listened, ... 7y
ptkpepe98 ... if Kalief had thought for a second about how his actions might be perceived by the officer, if ... So just as police want respect, with BlueLivesMatter (they do), I understand the demand for acknowledgement that is within BlackLivesMatter. 7y
ptkpepe98 If I misspelled names, it's because I had to return the book to the library.😀 7y

Owned and read this one when I was a kid, but just finished rereading it with my daughter for her final 8th grade assigned reading project. In addition to reading the book she also had to keep a summary journal that included a synopsis for each chapter and her own feelings about the book. Plus she had to do two additional projects, one of which was to make a crossword puzzle to go with the book. Looks pretty good if I do say so myself. 😊

monkeygirlsmama #socialjustice #blacklivesmatter #alllivesmatter #itsnottheskinbutwhatswithin ❤️👦🏻👩🏼👦🏽👩🏾👦🏿👩❤️Highly recommend this book to anyone, even if you're not within the intended age demographic. It's such a strong and moving story. I never realized this was the 4th book in this series. Thought it was a standalone. Now that I know I'm gonna look for the rest at the library. 🏢📚 (edited) 8y
