I had not heard of Zaha Hadid…I‘m so glad I picked up this book! An architect with an unique eye for design, Hadid had a hard time receiving recognition for her designs due to her gender and her ethnic background. Yet, she persisted. This #PictureBook biography lists her best known accomplishments and presents the text in an unique way, much like her designs. Great illustrations too. #BBRC #LetterW

JamieArc She designed the art museum on my campus in Michigan. It is a bit strange - futuristic. It was featured in a Batman movie. People around here have strong opinions about it. I don‘t love it or hate it, but it is pretty interesting. (Broad Art museum at Michigan State University). 1y
TheBookHippie @JamieArc you beat me to it! 😊 I agree ppl have strong opinions about it 😵‍💫. It‘s better than the one at Aquinas (art dept building) where my daughter attended. 1y
JamieArc @TheBookHippie I didn‘t realize there was one at Aquinas. I‘ll look it up. 1y

The world is not a rectangle is a NF book about the life of Zaha. She dreamed of becoming an architect. When she finally made it to where she wanted to be in life she realized that she was going to have many obstacles because she was a Muslim woman. I believe that this book could be used in a RA in class.

RamzieM UDL: Use multiple tools for construction and composition. (5.2)
ESOL: 34. He emphasized speed and emphasize the accuracy of work.

nquintus Ramzie, this looks like an excellent book! I think its theme would make it great for integration with a Social Studies lesson on diversity in the community. Nice choice! 4y
Emmaturtle3 Hey Ramzie, this looks like a must have book for my future classroom library!! I have never heard of it before just now and I think it would be a great RA for students and would provide great discussions afterwards and like Nicole said can definitely be used for a social studies lesson! 4y
DrSpalding Remember that a non-fiction book about a person would be categorized as a biography. English learner 28 is perfect for biographies. Check it out. 4y

#AnglophileApril Day 15: I can imagine architects saying to blank spaces I‘m gonna #FixYou. As Fats noted in her review: This tells the “story of visionary architect, Zaha Hadid who lived with her family in Baghdad, Iraq. Even as a young girl, Zaha dreamed of designing her own cities. She was fascinated by the way rivers flow through marshes and how the wind carries sand dunes across the cities.” Full review:https://wp.me/pDlzr-gzH

This is the story of renowned architect Zaha Hadid (1950-2016). Growing up in Iraq, Hadid was inspired by the dunes, rivers, and Persian design around her - “The world is not a rectangle.”

Hadid faced discrimination throughout her life for being a woman in a field dominated by men, and as an Arab. Her nature-inspired designs were revolutionary and award-winning.
