A really good read. There *was* something about the MC I didn't really like, which somehow made him more "real". I also like that he realizes that a part of him is a lot like his father. The final battle felt a bit anticlimactic, which honestly doesn't surprise me, it usually is LOL. but I liked the relationship dynamics and how it all ended. It feels complete but there is a sequel. I wonder what's next #queer #trans #nonbinary

I soon noticed how lonely Icarus was and felt for him. It was really nice to follow his life and how he finally got friends.

This was a good coming-of-age story with romance, for those who want to read one.

Chapters were super short...

I appreciated this book's message, this book made me ponder some important aspects of life.

I really liked the book, but it was slightly too melodramatic to my liking.

Brownstone, by Samuel Teer (illustr. Mar Julia) (2024)
⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Premise: A New York teenager meets her father for the first time one summer and learns about her Guatemalan heritage.

Review: This is sweet and effective, if very, very simplistic. It does deal with some hard subject matter — child abandonment, biracial identities, homophobia, and gentrification — but in ways that came off a bit too easy. ⬇️

How did I go from being a “normal” reader who reads one book at a time to a chaos monster reading a physical book, a kindle book, an audio/physical combo, and an audiobook all at the same time? Why? I am not built for this life. 😵‍💫🤪😂

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG #EoS Ch.1-9: And we‘re right back into the story - I love it. By this book, SJM knows who her audience is, she knows we‘ve been on this journey with her so far, we don‘t need boring long expositions- we‘re ready to get back in with our characters. It starts off interesting and stays that way - so far. ⬇️

StayCurious Some of my takeaways- Manon is starting to really come into her own. It was interesting to see Elide described as “demon possessed”. Vernon is a weasel. Funny that Erowan took on a new, handsome, athletic body. Although- wouldn‘t you? I love how loyal the members of Aelin‘s court are. Were we really thinking she‘d be welcomed back onto her throne with open arms? Yes, I kinda was. I hate old power grubbing men ⬇️ 10h
StayCurious Telling her to make herself useful by getting married🙄the nerve! I‘m all about Rowan and Aelin now (something I never thought I‘d say given how much of a jerk he started out as)…them being separated is never a good thing…I‘ve rambled on long enough and barely touched the surface - a lots going on. What were some of your key moments? 10h
BarkingMadRead I don‘t like that Rowan left, it worries me. I was so excited that Manon is becoming so sure of herself. I was so shocked that Aelin wasn‘t welcomed back, with everyone we‘ve met already calling her Queen. I‘m hoping Elide is ok, this demon thing worries me! 10h
LiseWorks Oh my goodness, there was a lot going on. Team Manon and Dorian, here they come. 2h

I'm not sure if I would have liked this better if I were the target audience (which I am decades from being). The italicized chapters written in first POV by the villain were laughable and ridiculous. But it was a quick read that I may just be way too old for.

“…it‘s the spirit of Christmas that counts. It must be a spirit of goodwill and kindness and joy and love. We must never forget the real meaning of Christmas—never let it be dimmed by any false meanings…”

Today‘s #KindredSpiritsChristmas story is “A Christmas of Long Ago”—this one is new to me! Short and sweet. You can find it here: https://www.fadedpage.com/books/20171105/html.php (we‘re still not yet into the tagged collection). Enjoy!

I really liked Tella and found Dante & Jacks super intriguing. And I am happy how there still is more to come.

But what I loved even more was the atmosphere! This felt so magical to read, and I loved the feeling.

This wasn't 100 % satisfying but I guess all these secrets are going to be revealed in the next book.

“Not everyone gets a true ending. There are two types of endings because most people give up at the part of the story where things are the worst, where the situation feels hopeless. But that's when hope is needed most. Only those who persevere can find their true ending.”
