Mireille Mathieu | Mireille Mathieu

My second favourite Christmas album of all time is so terrible it's good! Le merveilleux petit monde de Mireille Mathieu chante Noël is a 1968 album where the then new French superstar sang 12 tracks with her father and 14 siblings, including her youngest brother with more breath than voice. It's amazing. Listened to it all afternoon. #TuesdayTunes

Hip-Hop Is History | Questlove

It's a palette cleanser reading month for me, so I'm reading the tagged book and listening to music. Here's a top 50 list from Questlove, and a playlist of the songs mentioned in the 1979-1982 section.

Yes I Can: The Story of Sammy Davis, Jr | Sammy Davis Jr, Jane And Burt Boyar, Jane Boyar

I had a mild obsession with the Rat Pack in college, especially Sammy Davis Jr. He had a complicated personal life, but his ability to entertain through singing, acting, and dancing made him on of the most prolific Black entertainers of his day. In celebration of what would have been his 100th birthday, here is a video of a song that still gives me chills, I've Gotta Be Me

TieDyeDude Bonus video: this dance-off from the movie Tap lives rent free in my brain. At 62 years old, Sammy is one of the younger tappers in this scene. https://youtu.be/5Zd6GnFCfck (edited) 16h
Ruthiella You might be too young, but he was on an episode of “All in the Family” as himself where he teaches Archie a lesson and kisses him too. It was pretty funny. 16h
TheBookHippie @Ruthiella that episode was so fun!! 8h

TheBookHippie Thanks for this. They have always fascinated me -The Rat Pack. Lots of talent. 8h
AmyG I remember him from my childhood. The Candyman! It was all over the radio. 7h
Eggbeater That was great! Thank you! 6h
Kerrbearlib ♥️♥️♥️ 3h
TieDyeDude @Ruthiella Growing up, I loved watching All in the Family on Nick at Nite (I didn't have a lot of friends my age growing up 😋). I remember thinking that scene was funny, but I wasn't aware of the original social context until much later.

@TheBookHippie I also loved how democratic their shows were: everyone got equal time, they ribbed each other in good humor.

TheBookHippie @TieDyeDude they really did respect one another I believe. 3h

Just squeezing in a #TuesdayTunes post 😅 @TieDyeDude

This week, I‘ve been listening to Bollywood music suggested by my students since we are studying India. It‘s wonderful to see their faces light up when the songs come on. Some of our favorites:

Chaleya: https://youtu.be/VAdGW7QDJiU?si=svgCKRDW8N017v6-

Yeh Ishq Hai: https://youtu.be/b_sCZbYyuO4?si=EuHSNkB1J63QKkxJ

TieDyeDude That's so fun! I'll have to check them out tomorrow. We always say we'd like to give Bollywood movies a try. The closest I've come is the recent The Archies on Netflix 😋 7d
