Atomito is the mascot of the Bolivian nuclear energy programme. In Colanzi's short story, Atomito assumes an apocalyptic guise for the poor residents of El Alto, living next to a nuclear power plant.

Bookwomble Hmm, I added Blowin' in the Wind as I've always thought it a song about nuclear fallout being spread around the globe and how we're all connected and affected by war, but now I've checked the Wikipedia article for the song, it doesn't mention this as a theme. I guess Nobel Prize winners write lyrics that can be interpreted on many levels 🤔 1d
TheBookgeekFrau Omg! Fischer Z!!! You just zoomed me back to 1984 when I met my husband 😂 He had a tape of Fischer Z that we played til it wore out. It's been forever since I heard that name 1d
Bookwomble @TheBookgeekFrau My sister introduced me them in 1980 when they released Going Deaf for a Living. We disagreed about the pronunciation of the band's name, she insisted it was an Americanised "fisher zee", I insisting on the British "fisher zed". I was right! ?? It's actually a pun on "fish's head"! I love the Red Skies Over Paradise album, and I'm glad it gave you a happy memory ? 22h
TheBookgeekFrau @Bookwomble Thank you for both the memory AND the correct pronunciation of their name! 😁 20h

His iconic debut album was just the start of Marc Cohn's long career in music, which has been fraught with devastating set backs, and now includes a diagnosis of Parkinson's disease.

I have a soft spot for piano-based singer-songwriters, and his first two albums were in heavy rotation at our house growing up. I got to see him live with my dad once. I hope the best for him.

Thank You @TieDyeDude for #TuesdayTunes 🎶🥳🎶💫.

“The Native American musician associated with “Rumble“ is guitarist Link Wray, who released the instrumental in 1958. “Rumble“ is considered a foundational song in rock and roll, credited with inventing the power chord.“

I have mixed feelings about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but my tweenage heart could not resist watching Salt'n'Pepa get inducted. It was so fun to watch.

I have not seen the adaptation, nor is this technically a song selection for #tuesdaytunes but rather a post to encourage you to read this incredible portrait of what warfare is really like. I think that it's very unfair to cast it as anti-war, as it is a realistic portrait of WWI trench warfare told in prose so evocative that it could have been published today. Magnificent!
PS-if you need a smile then watch the independent YouTube video (Cont)

vivastory of Obama surprising a plane full of veterans today, many Vietnam vets and this is literally their first time meeting a president....

*Without a doubt the tagged book is going on my favorites of the year

Daisey This is such a great book, but I haven‘t made time to watch this adaptation yet. I also strongly recommend this WWI memoir of a German soldier: 1w
vivastory @Daisey Yes! I did read Storm of Steel. I felt like the movie 1917 (last movie I saw before theaters closed due to COVID) felt very influenced by Storm of Steel. There did seem to be a bit more bluster & patriotism lurking beneath SOS than All Quiet IMO, although I do recommend both. Storm is definitely one that doesn't get enough attention, for sure 1w

TheBookHippie Just sobbed watching the Obama video. When I was “little” they spat at returning kids aka veterans (19,29,21) horrific. I agree about tagged book. 1w

It's been cloudy today and is supposed to finally be in the 60s by the end of the week for a HIGH! I'm pretending it's chilly right now and am (seriously) listening to blizzard sounds. It's quite relaxing and is helping to put me in a fall spirit.

AmyG Oooo I am going to try that….blizzard sounds. 1w
