I am not at all current on pop music, which really hampers our bar trivia performance. Our trivia host gives weekly hints, and they were having a category on Coachella, so I did some research before, and, not only did I learn about an excellent song and artist, but it was a trivia question (we still came in 5th, but I got that question right 😜)

TheBookHippie Yay for getting a question right! 7h

A Clockwork Orange | Anthony Burgess

My posts have been sadly deficient of David Bowie for too long! 😄

Driving to work on Tuesday, I was amused when David came on my playlist singing the line:
💬 Where the fuck did Monday go?

🎙️ David Bowie 🧑🏼‍🎤
🎵 Girl Loves Me
💿 Blackstar
📽️https://youtu.be/BFD4BMlka9Q?si=1lAX2Ne3LwH-4Tio

Bookwomble David's final album has several references to his back catalogue, and Girl Love Me expands on his use of Burgess's nadsat slang on Ziggy Stardust, with some polari thrown in for good measure. A dark, unsettling and catchy track 🖤 (edited) 6d
BarbaraBB Finally you‘re back to Bowie 😀 6d
Bookwomble @BarbaraBB We never left each other 😌💖 6d

BarbaraBB Glad to hear that ❤️ 6d
TieDyeDude That lyric video did not help me understand the song at all, but I like the moody vibe 3d
Bookwomble @TieDyeDude No! 😆 Nadsat is Burgess's invented slang for Alex and his droogs in A Clockwork Orange, and polari is a working class cant developed to baffle the police, later adopted by the UK gay community before the decriminalisation of homosexuality in the late '60s. (Sorry for the TED Talk!) The Genius lyrics site has translations 😊 https://genius.com/David-bowie-girl-loves-me-lyrics 3d
TieDyeDude @Bookwomble Wow, that is so cool. I'll definitely be digging into that soon 3d

The soundtrack of the tagged play was released in 1970 and my dad bought the album. I was 11. Somewhere in the mid 60‘s my mother became a Seventh Day Adventist and our household drastically changed. Listening to this album constantly was an act of rebellion. She HATED it. This clip popped up on IG yesterday so I thought why not share here. I still know all the words.

@TieDyeDude

Suet624 I‘m with you. I know pretty much every word of this play. 7d
Ruthiella I am an atheist and I love this musical. Particularly the film version with Carl Anderson as Judas. What a performance ! 👏👏👏 6d
quietjenn Such a favorite! 6d
TieDyeDude My mom had the soundtrack on vinyl and CD. We didn't have to rebel to listen to it, but it's awesome that you did 😁 3d

I stumbled across Owls, Omens, and Oracles by Valerie June while exploring new albums. It's impossible for me to pick a favorite track: it's a #noskips album. Here's a great review of the album:

Robin Gibb & his son RJ composed the Titanic Requiem for the 100th anniversary of the sinking. The song “Don‘t Cry Alone” is beautiful and haunting. #TuesdayTunes

And the Waltz Goes on | Andr Rieu, Johann Strauss Orchestra

Of course, after posting about his upcoming book, I went down a rabbit hole and learned that, as well as a legendary actor, Sir Hopkins is an accomplished composer. I can't find his album anywhere, but there is evidence of at least one song, including this video of Rieu playing in the first public performance of a waltz Hopkins wrote 50 years prior.

Here‘s the songs I listened to recently on my Amazon Alexa Echo Dot in my room. I like it because all I have to do is tell Alexa what songs to play. I feel like I have my own personal DJ in my room.

On Sunday my daughter and I went to the Oregon Symphony. The opening piece was Mozart‘s first symphony written when he was 8! I was probably still making mud pies at 8 😂. The closing piece was his last symphony Jupiter. It‘s been the year of Mozart this season as we also heard Requiem and saw Amadeus.
